23-Year-Old Man Dies, Several Others Injured After Greyhound Bus and Car Crash in Alabama
The bus and a car collided Monday night outside of Ardmore, Alabama, a representative for Greyhound told PEOPLE
A crash involving a car and Greyhound bus in Alabama has left one dead and several others injured, according to Alabama state police.
The crash, which occurred near Ardmore, Alabama, took place at about 10:13 p.m. local time on Monday, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) said in a statement to PEOPLE.
The bus was traveling from Tallahassee, Florida to Nashville, Tennessee.
"Greyhound is saddened to learn that the driver of the car involved in the accident suffered fatal injuries," a representative for Greyhound told PEOPLE in a statement. "We are shocked and saddened by this incident, and our thoughts and sympathy are with all who were involved, as well as their families. We are working at this time to give our full support to those affected by this accident."

Police identified the victim as Sidney C. Benson, 23. Benson died when the car he was driving was struck by the Greyhound bus. He was pronounced dead at the scene. According to police, he was not wearing a seat belt.

The victim's sister, Jasmine Seiger, shared in a Facebook post that she is "devastated" by the crash, further noting, "To lose one of the boys is a level of heartbreak I can’t even begin to express."

After the vehicles collided, the bus veered off of the road and overturned, police said.
The bus driver, Toni E. Lopez, 63, was taken by helicopter to Huntsville Hospital for treatment.

"Greyhound continues to work closely with the relevant authorities on site to determine the exact circumstances of this accident," the company added.
Greyhound further noted that eight passengers were transported to nearby hospitals. The injured passengers were taken to local area hospitals for treatment.
Police identified the passengers as Tina D. Ratcliff, 56, of Louin, Mississippi; Kenneth C. Green, 41, of Florence, Alabama; Ceara K. Finney, 36, of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; Willie G. Miller Jr., 63, of Nashville; Tashae L. Brandberry, 23; Lacey J. Cantu, 36, of Moncks Corner, South Carolina; Dion L. Shelton, 54, of Lowndesboro, Alabama; and Hope R. Knox, 37, of Myrtle, Mississippi.
