The four men escaped the Tangipahoa Parish Jail on Sunday, May 26, while participating in their recreation time in the yard, Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards said in a statement shared on Facebook that night.
When authorities inspected the fence, they found a section of it was maneuvered in a way that a small body could slip through.
The inmates were identified in the statement as Omarion Hookfin, 19, of Hammond; Avery Guidry, 19, of Natalbany; Jamarcus Cyprian, 20, of Amite; and Travon Johnson, 21, of Natalbany.
Sheriff Edwards said Johnson, Hookfin and Guidry were in jail following their arrests in connection with a 2022 homicide in Hammond, La., and Cyprian was doing time for armed robbery and weapon charges. Hookfin is also charged with aggravated battery for an unrelated incident at a separate jail.
According to local station WWL-TV, authorities said that Johnson, Hookfin and Guidry are accused of breaking into a home and fatally shooting Donte Perry and his 12-year-old daughter. The girl was shot 10 times, the outlet reports, citing authorities.
The sheriff asks if anyone has information on the whereabouts of the suspects to call 911 or Crime Stoppers Tangipahoa’s anonymous tip line at 800-554-5245.
