The month of October has become synonymous with breast cancer, better known as the Breast Cancer Awareness month. It is partly thanks to the corporate social efforts of The Estee Lauder Companies, who have been raising awareness for this debilitating illness on a global scale. In 1992, Estee Lauder founder Evelyn H. Lauder kickstarted the global breast cancer movement to achieve a breast cancer-free world and raise funds for the appointed beneficiaries.
Even though great strides have been made since then, there’s more to be done. According to the World Health Organisation, breast cancer has become the most common cancer globally as of 2021, accounting for 12% of all new annual cancer cases worldwide. The statistics* are chilling:
In 2020, 2.3 million have been diagnosed with breast cancer.
In Singapore, 1,000 women are diagnosed with the disease each year.
Furthermore, 1 in 3 women will develop breast cancer.

The work of Breast Cancer Awareness is more urgent than ever. The campaign aims to create greater awareness of the importance of self-check and regular mammograms, celebrate the victories of breast cancer survivors, and open up conversations about the disease. The Estee Lauder Companies also calls for appreciation towards the role of caregivers.
This year, the local beneficiaries are Singapore General Hospital and the Breast Cancer Foundation. Proceeds will be channelled to further breast cancer research. Wish to lend your support to the cause? There are four ways you can do so.
1. Head to social media to create awareness
Time to whip out your smartphone and prepare something pink – breast cancer’s official colour. The Estée Lauder Companies will donate S$5, up to S$10,000 for every public, in-feed post on Instagram or Facebook with pink elements and official hashtags #TimeToEndBreastCancer and #IlluminatePinkSG from 1 - 31 October 2021, to support breast disease research at Singapore General Hospital. These efforts will be supported by the government’s dollar-for-dollar match.
2. Buy limited-edition pink products and help raise funds
In addition, six beauty brands under the Group are launching a range of limited-edition pink ribbon products to support the mission to end breast cancer and raise funds for Breast Cancer Research. From now till the end of the year, on 31 December, a significant portion of the retail price of these six products will be channelled to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. So now's the time to do your part!
