6 Best Neighbourhood Cafes in Taman Desa

With condominiums as far as the eye can see, Taman Desa is located in Kuala Lumpur, about a 10 minutes drive, and is most accessible through the East-West Link Expressway. Most people enjoy the Desa Waterpark here and even pass through before or after a trip to Midvalley Megamall. If you're hankering for a cup of coffee or a snack to eat then explore these 6 cafes in the vicinity of Taman Bukit Desa, Taman Danau Desa, and Taman Desa itself!

Encore Patisserie Cafe

Encore Patisserie Cafe puts huge emphasis on their patisserie-training and their from-scratch French pastries, and has quickly become one of the darling favourites of Taman Bukit Desa. Now, that really just consists of one row of shophouses in the neighbourhood of condos and terraced houses, but we’ll have you know that this place is a big deal anyways!

More people would smile after a cuppa here

They come well-tuned to the needs of their customers. It occupies a corner lot with garden seating, to accommodate alfresco dining and the claustrophobes, and inside there is a large cake counter with pastries galore, to accommodate the sweet tooths.

Serving the night owls that need a roost!

You can choose to linger with their WiFi, and for RM9.50, you can also get their pastry set with a hot coffee/tea on weekdays, 3pm-6pm. Or just grab stuff to go!

Eggs-celent quiches here, you should run in for one.

Red Kettle

Also in Taman Bukit Desa, lies this cosy little restaurant-bakery-cafe opened by friends in 2015, lined with woodgrain and cherry decor of red like it's namesake.

We want ALL the labels, everything!

It serves more than most cafes despite it’s simple atmosphere, also serving baked goods and full, hearty hot meals like their signature pork ribs and a tasty chicken chop.

It won't take long to get down to the meat of things

Unpretentious and homely, this spot serves up drinks like Vietnamese drip coffee and Horlicks ice, perfect for relaxing with, especially with a vanilla soft serve cone!

Comforting drinks that you'd find in a mamak

Wild Sheep Chase

One of Old Klang Road’s new additions to the cafe scene, this cafe straddles the fringe of Taman Desa. They serve delicious cups of coffee, where latte art is clearly absent, focusing instead on the contents of the cup rather than it's appearance.

It's on another level altogether

Now utilising natural-looking light wood and large windows to allow for natural light to stream into this beautiful minimalistic cafe, decorated with fresh cuts of flowers.

It is wildly popular being one the few restaurant in Malaysia to have succeeded in coaxing delicate souffles into rising to the occasion.

Pretty in pink, everything seems rosy here

Tasting of delicious vanilla bean and tart grapefruit sorbet, this is quite a treat for the eyes and tastebuds! We think this fragile dessert definitely looks a lot more dainty

than the savoury souffle in Miam Mian, One Utama.

Souffles require a lot of patience to create the perfect rise, and can't be kept, requiring immediate preparation

The area does not provide for Wi-fi, though by the murmuring crowd enjoying the space, it seems blatantly unnecessary. Come in to book your seat early here!

Le Lapin Cafe

Socked away on a two-storey shoplot in Taman Danau Desa, behind Rayong Thai, sits a small, family-oriented cafe, Le Lapin Cafe. You’ll be welcomed by the giant bunny mural, no missing that fast little cutie.

Into the looking glass with you Alice!

Perfect for sitting quietly with a book, while you sip on a hot mug of coffee and nibble on something light. The radio bickers away in the background while servers rustle up hot food, quite a comforting background to rest upon.

Each visit is quite a hare-raising treat

Breakfast fare is delicious! Only available up to 3pm, but the staff can still rustle up something hot for you beyond those hours!

Baked breakfast in a Chef's ring or ramekin, simply elegant!

Await Cafe

Like Wild Sheep Chase and Le Lapin, this cafe is located upstairs, maybe it’s something in the air. Nevertheless, it is cosy and quiet, with couches and board games available.

Luckily service is not a wait either!

Smoker’s rejoice, there's also a smoking area at the balcony/outdoor area. However do take note of your clothes, don’t want that smoke trailing inside with you!

Get some fresh air and sunlight!

Wifi is available here, like many other cafes do. However, it’s not a late night joint. It stays open to a healthy hour of 8pm, which is great if you're looking for a cuppa before dinner in the neighbourhood.

Study hearty kids!

Doiffee

This is the only Taman Desa cafe listed here that's located in the main Taman Desa area, also where Faber Heights is found.

Studies show people think more objectively in dim light

It is a family affair, the father constructed the dark, moody environment, and we can only assume that the son is the reason for its lively atmosphere. We notice a lot of families making their rounds here, and groups seems to enjoy the live music nights here as well.

You can afford more than just a drink with their new menu!

They have a new affordable lunch menu to match our shrinking wallets, RM8-14 with offerings like a cheeseburger, pasta and variations of eggs on toast, just add RM1-3 for a coffee or tea.
