Sixty people have been arrested in Geylang for various offences, including peddling contraband cigarettes and vice-related activities.

The arrests were made amid a three-day joint operation that ended on Friday (21 July), which was led by the Bedok Police Division and involved officers from the Singapore Customs, Immigration and Checkpoints Authority, Criminal Investigation Department and Health Sciences Authority.

Covering the streets and hotels in the Geylang area, the operation saw four men arrested for selling contraband cigarettes along with cough mixtures and tablets. The total street value of the items amounted to over $11,000, said the Singapore Police Force in a news release on Sunday.

Seven women were nabbed for vice-related activities committed in residential units, while four men were also caught for drug-related offences.

Forty-four men aged between 17 and 65 were also arrested for public gaming offences, with another 34-year-old man taken into custody under the Secret Society Act.

Investigations against all the suspects are ongoing, the release said.
