68-year-old PMA rider hospitalised after Bukit Panjang accident on Saturday; 32-year-old driver arrested

Another individual declined to be taken to the hospital after being assessed for minor injuries, the SCDF said.

SINGAPORE — A 68-year-old woman was taken to the hospital unconscious following a collision involving a car and two personal mobility aids (PMAs) in Bukit Panjang on Saturday (16 March).

The police and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said they were alerted to the accident at about 4.15pm, which occurred at the junction of Bukit Panjang Ring Road and Segar Road.

A 32-year-old male car driver was arrested for careless driving causing grievous hurt. Police confirmed this with Yahoo Southeast Asia on Monday (18 March), saying that investigations are ongoing.

The woman was taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, while the SCDF said another individual declined to be taken to hospital after being assessed for minor injuries.

PMAs crushed, emergency responders on site

Photos shared on Saturday by the Facebook group SG Road Vigilante – SGRV showed the aftermath of the accident, with a black multi-purpose vehicle stationed in the middle lane just beyond the traffic light.

One of the PMAs, equipped with a blue seat cushion, was visibly crushed beneath the car, with scattered belongings strewn across the ground nearby.

Emergency responders, including four paramedics and two police officers, can be seen tending to an individual on the ground, with two police cars stationed nearby and safety cones set up around the accident site.

According to the Chinese-language newspaper Shin Min Daily News, a resident in the vicinity recounted hearing a loud noise at the time of the accident and observed a woman lying in front of a car upon looking out of his window.
