"7 Letters" movie tickets sold out in 2 hours

3 Jul – In celebration of Singapore's 50th year of independence, seven award-winning local directors have come together to produce a movie to commemorate the special occasion.

Boo Junfeng, Eric Khoo, K Rajagopal, Jack Neo, Tan Pin Pin, Royston Tan, and Kelvin Tong have banded together to work on the SG50 movie, "7 Letters".

According to news on the movie's official website, the tickets for the movie "were fully taken up within two hours of the commencement of ticketing".

Ticketing began on the website on 1 July at 12 noon. There was a high demand for the tickets since at the moment there are no confirmed plans for the movie to be screened at any other cinemas beyond the three-day premiere at Capitol Theatre, though based on the comments on the movie's official Facebook page, there are plans for it to be released on DVD.

There was no price set for the tickets as purchasers were instead encouraged to donate to the following organisations: Alzheimer's Disease Association, Children-At-Risk Empowerment Association, Movement for the Intellectually Disabled of Singapore, PERTAPIS Senior Citizens Fellowship Home, Singapore Buddhist Lodge Welfare Foundation, Student Care Service, and Transient Workers Count Too.

The official synopsis reads: "7 Letters" represents seven heartfelt 'love letters' to Singapore, capturing each of the directors' personal and poignant connection with the place they call home. The seven stories tell of our heartland and its people through tales of lost love, identity, inter-generational familial bonds and tensions, unlikely neighbours, and even references to traditional folklore.

"7 Letters", chosen as the opening movie at the newly renovated Capitol Theatre, will screen from 24 to 26 July 2015.

China anchors 'monster ship' in South China Sea, Philippine coast guard says
