SINGAPORE — A seven months' pregnant woman had climbed out of the window of a flat and scaled down three storeys to evade drug enforcement officers.

Details of her attempted escape were shared by the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) in a Facebook post on Wednesday (20 July) that has attracted over 900 shares as of 7.50pm.

The incident occurred during a recent drug operation by CNB officers. CNB did not specify the date or location, as well as the age of the woman.

The officers had knocked on the door of an 11th-storey unit and identified themselves. The woman was then seen climbing out the window of the unit and scaling down to the eighth storey near an aircon ledge.

"An officer immediately rushed to a stairway near the subject’s location and calmed her down such that she did not endanger herself any further," said CNB.

The woman was subsequently rescued by the Singapore Civil Defence Force officers and warded in hospital for observation.

CNB officers then entered her unit, where they found her seven-year-old son alone, along with drug paraphernalia. The boy was later placed in the safe custody of a next-of-kin.

One of two photos included in CNB's post showed a child sitting on a mattress near a pack of cigarettes, an ashtray, and two handphones.

"A heart-wrenching scene for all involved — the suspected abuser, the child, and the officers, all except for the trafficker who had been profiting off her addiction," said CNB.

This comes a month after it posted on Facebook about its officers finding a nine-month-old baby boy in a flat where his mother had been using methamphetamine, commonly known as "Ice".

A total of 2,724 drug abusers were arrested in Singapore last year, an 11 per cent decrease from the previous year, according to CNB's 2021 annual statistics.

In the same year, CNB seized drugs with a street value of about S$18.16 million and conducted operations that led to the dismantling of 25 drug syndicates.
