75-Year-Old Woman Found Alive 2 Days After She Disappeared with Her Dog During Hike

A 75-year-old woman has been found alive two days after she disappeared with her dog during a hike near Aspen, Colorado.

In a statement shared on Facebook on Tuesday, June 11, the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Jennifer Hearn had been found and was “receiving medical care.”

“Jennifer was reported missing on June 9 after hiking on Triangle Peak,” the statement read. “Jennifer's dog, Tawny, was located at approximately 9:30 a.m., enabling search crews to concentrate their efforts in a more targeted area, which subsequently led to Jennifer's discovery at around 3:30 p.m.”

Tawny, an Irish Setter, was found at a residence near Triangle Peak.

The sheriff’s office said in a press release that Hearn was reported missing after not returning from her hike on the trail, which is located in the Snowmass Canyon area of the Roaring Fork Valley. The initial search for Hearn began at 8:57 p.m. on June 9.

“PCSO asks that the public give friends and family the space that they need at this time to recover and care for Jennifer,” police added.

The Triangle Peak Trail is described as a “steep trail that sees limited foot traffic due to its difficult and rocky terrain.” According to All Trails, the trail is nearly 5 miles long and takes an average of just under three and a half hours to complete.

On the day that Hearn and Tawny were found, the search team involved 30 members of Mountain Rescue Aspen (MRA), a helicopter from Care Flight of the Rockies and "numerous citizens," per authorities.

After Tawny was found, the search area was narrowed down to the “steep rock-covered hillsides overlooking the Woody Creek area,” according to the press release. Hearn was found “during the focused search of the scree fields that cover the side of Triangle Peak.”
