“9-1-1: Lone Star” Cast Members Respond to Cancellation Rumors: 'Grateful for the Family I've Created'

Rafael Silva and Ronen Rubinstein shared heartfelt messages with fans after 'Deadline' reported that season 5 of the '9-1-1' spinoff may be its last

Rumors that 9-1-1: Lone Star has been canceled continue to swirl, but stars Rafael Silva and Ronen Rubinstein are keeping calm and carrying on.

After Deadline reported that the drama may end after its upcoming fifth season — and that series regular Sierra McClain has left the show — the actors reacted to the news on social media.

On June 10, Silva, 29, and Rubinstein, 30 — who play police officer Carlos Reyes and paramedic T.K. Strand in the Fox procedural — both shared posts to their Instagram Stories reassuring fans that nothing is set in stone.

“Wherever the ship sails, [I’m] grateful for the family I’ve created on this show,” Rafael Silva wrote in a June 10 post obtained by TV Line.

In his own post, Rubinstein, who plays Silva’s on-screen husband, echoed the actor, writing, “Nowhere in that article stated a certain fate for our show.”

“But one thing I do know for certain is we will continue pouring our blood, sweat and tears into these last few episodes and deliver to you our most special season yet,” he continued, adding, “I better see all of you in September.”

According to Deadline's June 7 report, McClain, who stars as 911 operator Grace Ryder in the Fox drama, has exited the series.

The outlet reported that the studio put the cast in a “take it or leave it” situation regarding their contracts, and she went back and forth before ultimately deciding to leave.

As both Silva and Rubinstein shared, 9-1-1: Lone Star will return with a 12-episode season this fall despite McClain’s exit — and after taking a hiatus due to strike-related production delays.

Last month, Fox Entertainment CEO Rob Wade told Deadline that there was a hope that the network would make a renewal decision after season 5 airs. But, as the outlet reported, the renewal decision would likely be made ahead of the fall premiere.

“Lone Star was not on the schedule this year because of the strike, and we’re really looking forward to getting it back on in the fall,” Wade said in May.

The CEO added, “We are excited about the new season. We’re going to see how that goes as always, and then make decisions on that about the future of that franchise.”

Lone Star, a spinoff of 9-1-1 (which moved to ABC earlier this year), follows Owen Strand (Rob Lowe), the captain of a fledgling Austin, Texas firehouse alongside his son, portrayed by Rubinstein.

Alongside Silva, Rubinstein, Lowe and (formerly) McClain, the series also stars Gina Torres, Natacha Karam, Brian Michael Smith, Julian Works, Kelsey Yates, Skyler Yates and Brianna Baker.
