Accused of treason, Nurul Izzah brings up Anwar’s contributions to Sabah

Under flak for taking a photograph w‎ith Sulu representative Jacel Kiram, Nurul Izzah Anwar today sought to remind Malaysians of the contributions her father and PKR have made to Sabah. Nuru‎l Izzah said the PKR de facto chief, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, was the first to suggest celebrating Malaysia Day, while the Pan-Borneo Highway currently under construction was first mooted in the Pakatan Rakyat common policy. “I want to remind that it was the PKR de facto leader who was the first to suggest Malaysia Day, acknowledging that Sabah and Sarawak are equal partners. “The Pan-Borneo Highway that is being constructed, don’t forget, it was in the Orange Book for years. We came up with the suggestion,” she said in her winding-up speech at the party’s annual national congress in Shah Alam. Nuru‎l Izzah also thanked her friends in Sabah for understanding the situation and defending her throughout the controversy. “I defend Sabah’s sovereignty just as I defend the sovereignty of the Malaysian federation. I urge my friends to join me. We will prove who is the real traitor in Malaysia.” She urged the “real traitors” to show their true faces and stop hiding behind masks and provoking sentiments. Nurul Izzah added that it was with a heavy heart she accepted the Sabah legislative assembly’s decision to bar her from‎ entering the state after after the photo of her and Jacel went viral on social media. The PKR vice-president has also been summoned to Parliament’s rights and privileges committee. Jacel is the daughter of the self-styled Sultan of Sulu Jamalul Kiram III. Jamalul is said to be the mastermind of the Lahad Datu invasion two years ago. The photo was taken during an event in the Philippines organised by the office of the mayor of Manila and the vice-president’s office. – November 29, 2015.
