SINGAPORE — Mediacorp actor Edwin Goh was fined $6,500 on Thursday (13 October), after he pleaded guilty to one charge of drink driving.

The 28-year-old was also disqualified from driving for three years.

The Straits Times reported that Goh had driving along Aljunied Road in the early hours of 7 September, when he was stopped by traffic police.

He had reeked of alcohol, and when administered a breath analyser test, he was found to have 81 micrograms of alcohol in 100ml of breath, more than double the prescribed limit of 35 micrograms.

CNA reported that Goh had gone to a restaurant in the Golden Mile area the previous night to have dinner, before heading to a bar nearby for drinks.

Goh appeared alone in court, and asked for leniency, saying he had reflected on his mistake. He has since paid the fine.

Breakout Star of the Year in 2012

Goh is known for acting in local dramas Fighting Spiders, On the Fringe, and Imperfect.

He was awarded the Breakout Star of the Year title at the Elle Awards 2012, and had been nominated for best newcomer and best supporting actor categories at the Mediacorp Star Awards.

A Mediacorp spokesman told The Straits Times that it does not condone any behaviour that runs afoul of the law. Goh will be counselled and there will be internal action taken against him, said the spokesman.

Other local celebrities who have been convicted of drink driving include Shane Pow, Terence Cao and Christopher Lee.

For drink-driving, Goh could have been jailed for up to a year and fined up to $10,000. Repeat offenders may be jailed for up to two years and fined up to $20,000.
