Adam Scott and Ben Stiller Celebrate Getting 'Back to Work' on “Severance” as Season 2 Resumes Filming After Strike Delay

On Monday, Apple TV+ announced that production for the much-anticipated second season of Severance is officially underway.

The streamer's joint Instagram post with executive producer and director Ben Stiller featured a black-and-white shot of star Adam Scott running, with the caption: "Back to work."

Scott, 50, also relished in the return to work news. Sharing the same photo on Instagram, the Parks and Recreation alum wrote, "Lovely being back at the office."

Fans from all walks of life rejoiced with the announcement, including stars like Alison Brie and Jack Quaid. "Well hallelujah!," commented Brie, 41, as Quaid, 31, said, "YES!!!!!!"

"BEST NEWS EVER 🔥," Daryl Sabara shared, while Melanie Lynskey replied, "🎊🎊🎊💖💖💖 SO EXCITED."

Severance premiered on Apple TV+ in February 2022 and kept viewers glued through its April 2022 finale. Created by Dan Erickson, the series follows Scott's Mark who underwent a procedure recommended by his employer, Lumon Industries, that separates staff's work life from their personal life, allowing them to stay focused on the task at hand. However, Mark gradually discovers secrets lying beneath the surface — and what Lumon is really up to.

Zach Cherry, Britt Lower, Tramell Tillman, Jen Tullock, Dichen Lachman, Michael Chernus, John Turturro, Christopher Walken and Patricia Arquette also starred in the show's debut season, which was critically lauded and received 14 nominations at the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards.

Apple TV+ renewed the psychological drama for a second season just two days before its April 2022 finale. It was later announced that new stars joining in season 2 include Alia Shawkat, Gwendoline Christie, John Noble, Merritt Wever, Bob Balaban, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Robby Benson and Stefano Carannante.

Production on the upcoming installment had been delayed due to the now-resolved Writers Guild of America (WGA) and Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strikes, which ended last September and November, respectively.

Earlier this month, Stiller gave an update on the stalled second season, sharing on X (formerly Twitter) that they were "working on" bringing it back. He previously revealed months prior that Severance "has always been a multi-season story."

"I'm really happy we get to continue it," he shared in an Apple TV+ press release at the time. "I'm grateful to our partners at Apple TV+ who have been behind it the whole way. Praise Keir!"
