Adriano condemned for goal

Shakhtar Donetsk striker Luiz Adriano has been condemned following his controversial goal against FC Nordsjaelland in the Champions League on Tuesday. Adriano failed to notice that a pass from teammate Willian was meant for Nordsjaelland's goalkeeper following a foul on Morten Nordstrand and a subsequent drop-ball, but before the pass could reach Jesper Hansen, the Brazilian rounded the keeper and slotted home into an empty net to level the score at 1-1. Adriano went on to score a hat-trick as the match ended 5-2 with Shakhtar progressing to the last 16. Shakhtar manager Mirca Lucescu apologised for the incident, but remains adamant that the result was fair. "I'm very sorry that we scored a goal that caused so much controversy," Lucescu told ESPN. "Luiz Adriano told me that his instinct made him score the goal. "Afterwards, we let our opponents back into the match, but Stepanenko did not understand our instructions. Fortunately, it was quickly settled. "We deserved to win as we were the better team. Again, I apologise for what happened in [the build-up to] Adriano's goal. "We are very proud of this victory and it should have been 10-2! I apologised, what else do you want me to do?" Nordsjaelland's captain, Nicolai Stokholm, was under the impression that his team would be allowed to get a goal back, but was left disappointed. "Their striker didn't get it," Stokholm told reporters. "I looked down at my armband and there's something about respect - it has to be said we didn't see much of that. "We thought that they would give us a goal. Half their team seemed to think so too, but the other half didn't."
