AEW kicked off its first-ever Continental Classic tournament on last week's edition of Dynamite with three Gold League matches.

The tournament, which was announced by AEW CEO Tony Khan and Bryan Danielson earlier this month, will conclude at the Worlds End pay-per-view on December 30.

The Continental Classic is a round-robin tournament featuring 12 wrestlers split into two blocks, the Blue and Gold League, with six wrestlers in each.

The winner of each match is awarded three points awarded for a win, while a draw will result in one point each and there are zero points for a loss.

Each match has a 20-minute time limit and no one is allowed at ringside to possibly interfere in the match. Violating this rule may result in a one-point deduction.

The two group winners will face off at the tournament final at the Worlds End pay-per-view at the Nassau Coliseum in Long Island, New York.

After the tournament was announced, there was some confusion over what prize the winner would receive after Ring of Honor Champion and NJPW Strong Openweight Champion Eddie Kingston said he'd be defending both his titles in each tournament match.

Kingston then said that the winner of the tournament would become AEW's first-ever Triple Crown champion, as they would also receive the Continental Classic Championship.

However, ahead of the tournament's start, Tony Khan clarified the stakes, saying that Kingston's titles would not be on the line in all of his matches but instead the tournament winner will receive the three titles and become the inaugural AEW Triple Crown Champion.
