AEW's Kenny Omega has announced he's 'out of action indefinitely' after being hospitalised for diverticulitis.

Sharing a photo from his hospital bed, Omega wrote on X (formerly Twitter): "I can’t really sugar coat this. I’m out indefinitely.

"I tried to keep pushing past the pain for as long as I could until it became too much. Luckily doctors caught me when they did.

"I’ll be here so in the mean time, please enjoy wrestling!"

Sean Ross Sapp later followed up Omega's post with a report that the former AEW World Champion had been diagnosed with diverticulitis after being ill for the past week.

Omega had wrestled Ethan Page on last week's edition of Collision (December 5) and had appeared on this past week's Dynamite in a segment alongside his tag team partner Chris Jericho.

The promo segment, which also featured Ricky Starks and Big Bill, had been heavily criticised on social media.

Jericho and Omega had been scheduled to team at the World's End pay per view on December 30, in a Tag Team Championship match against title holders Starks and Big Bill.

Omega, a former IWGP Heavyweight Champion, signed with AEW after the company's formation in January 2019.

So far he has held the Tag Team Championship with 'Hangman' Adam Page and the Trios Championship with the Young Bucks.

In December 2020 he became AEW's third-ever World Champion, a title he held for a record-setting 346 days.

Omega's record was broken by current champion MJF in October, just days after he defeated Omega in a World Championship match on Collision.
