‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’: Patton Oswalt returns to reveal Koenig family secret!

The Koenigs return!
EW has learned exclusively that Patton Oswalt will reprise his role as Koenig brothers Sam and Billy in the upcoming Jan. 31 episode of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Titled “Hot Potato Soup,” the episode finds Sam and Billy being hunted down in a bid to get at the Darkhold, and only Coulson (Clark Gregg) and Co. can save them — but viewers may also get some long-awaited answers!
“Patton Oswalt returns as the Koenigs, and we finally reveal their family secret,” executive producers Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen tell EW.
Oswalt first appeared in season 1 as Eric Koenig, a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent stationed at a secret base. Viewers later met his brother Billy Koenig, who was stationed at a different secret base, as well as Sam Koenig, who had overseen Theta Protocol, which provided the 11th hour save via helicarrier in Avengers: Age of Ultron. To note, Eric was murdered by Hydra sleeper agent Grant Ward (Brett Dalton).
It comes as no surprise that an arc exploring Life Model Decoys would welcome back the Koenigs given the assumption that Eric, Billy, and Sam are likely not identical triplets, but rather potential LMDs — which could be the Koenig family secret. They not only look alike, but each has eerily identical greetings for Coulson and have joked that there are 13 of them. Here’s hoping Oswalt will be really busy when he returns!
