Ahmad Awang might sue Hadi over ‘DAP’s choice’ slander

Defeated PAS presidential candidate Ahmad Awang is considering legal action against parties who defamed him during the presidential elections, including PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang. He said while he did not regret losing in the elections, the slander hurled against him caused a rift in PAS. "I am considering it (suing), including the president who labelled me DAP's candidate," Ahmad told The Malaysian Insider today. "I cannot accept the slander and want to clear my name," said the presidential candidate who only secured 25% of the total votes. In the run-up to the PAS muktamar elections in Selangor, Hadi had said in a statement which went viral on video that the contest for the party presidency was between a DAP choice and a PAS candidate. "You can choose between the one DAP wants or the one we (PAS) want," he said in the video which went viral, especially among muktamar delegates. During the elections, an ulama-linked list of candidates, which is said to have been endorsed by Hadi, was distributed to delegates. The pro-Hadi group swept all the positions in the Central, Youth and Women's wings while candidates in the Dewan Ulama won without contest. Only Mazlan Aliman, the candidate who did not appear in the pro-Hadi list, won a central committee position, but he quit a week later. Other than Ahmad, the former treasurer and chair of the PAS election committee Asmuni Awi are also considering taking legal action for slander against some in the party. Asmuni, a lawyer who had represented Hadi in the RM2 million civil suit by the former PKR Bukit Besi candidate, said in a Facebook posting soon after the muktamar he contemplated the legal action. – June 20, 2105.
