One of the UK's hottest new young actors, Jack O'Connell has been tapped to play Alexander McQueen in an upcoming biopic.

The recipient of BAFTA's Rising Star Award in 2015, O'Connell's credits include "'71", "Starred Up", "The Iron Lady", "Belle" and "Lady in the Van".

The biopic about the legendary fashion designer will be directed by Andrew Haigh and the script written by playwright Chris Urch, which will be based on the biography "Blood Beneath the Skin" by Andrew Wilson, reports Deadline.

McQueen shocked the fashion world when he committed suicide in 2010 at the age of 40.

The film is set to begin production next spring.
