Alison Hammond comforts Paloma Faith as star feels like 'failure' over split
The presenter told the singer the break up was a part of her 'story'
What did you miss?
Alison Hammond comforted Paloma Faith after the singer revealed she felt like a failure because she had split from the father of her children.
The star was on This Morning talking about her music and addressed that fact that she and her long-term partner Leyman Lahcine had gone their separate ways. The pair had been together for several years and have two young daughters, but are thought to have broken up in 2022.
However, when Faith talked about there being a sense of failure over it, the ITV show’s host Hammond stepped in to tell her: “Don’t ever say that’s a failure, that’s your life, that’s your journey, that’s your story, and that’s how it’s going.”
What, how, and why?
Faith opened up as she told how her upcoming album, The Glorification Of Sadness, was all about her break-up with her ex.
“It’s a bit different to songs that I have done when I was younger, about just cut and run,” she said.
“It feels very heavy that I broke up with my children’s dad,” she went on. “I feel a real sense of responsibility, I feel like, stages of grief are just so kind of present and even now two years on I still feel this kind of like, overarching sense of guilt that I failed my children, or I failed society or what is expected.
“So the album sort of chronologically goes through the stages of grief, whether it’s a relationship break up or a death or whatever.”
Faith said the album “documents" the whole thing, saying it covered that sense of “failure”. “Probably my only regret, I’ve never really been someone who has regretted anything,” she added.
What did Alison Hammond say?
Hammond – who was hosting with fellow presenter Dermot O’Leary – then told her: “Firstly Paloma, it’s not a failure." “This is life, people split up,” she said. “Just the fact that it’s the children’s dad you split up with doesn’t make you a failure.”
“You’re a single mum, you are a pop star, you are absolutely smashing it!” she went on.
“Don’t ever say that’s a failure, that’s your life, that’s your journey, that’s your story, and that’s how it’s going,” she continued.
Hammond revealed that she understood as she had some of the same feelings when she split from her ex, who is the father of her 19-year-old son Aiden.
She explained: “I felt that failure when I split up with my son’s dad but you know, his dad has now moved on, he’s married, he’s got three other children. They are part of our family as well.
"You don’t know how it’s going to work out.. It’s part of your story.”
