Olympian Allyson Felix and her husband, Kenneth Ferguson, bonded over their passion for running.

The runners crossed paths for the first time as teenagers at a track meet, and years later they began a romantic relationship.

In 2018, the couple got married and welcomed their daughter. Their second baby, a boy, arrived in April 2024. Felix and Ferguson's priorities and schedules have shifted with the expansion of their family and Felix's retirement. As parents, the pair have said they balance out each other's strengths.

"I feel like I'm the disciplinarian, and he's very much free flowing," she shared with PEOPLE of parenting their daughter, Camryn. "But we both want her to explore and express herself, and it's been really fun to watch her creativity blossom."

So who is Allyson Felix's husband? Here's everything to know about the runner and proud dad, Kenneth Ferguson.

Although Felix and Ferguson have never explicitly stated how they met, it is presumed that they first met while both were competing at the 2002 USA Track & Field Junior National Championships, which were held in Palo Alto, California. Ferguson later recalled their meeting in a birthday tribute to his wife in 2020.

"In my eyes, you are exactly the way that you were when I saw you for the first time 18 years ago in Palo Alto .... Beautiful and fine," he wrote on Instagram. "Happy Birthday Shug." The couple began dating soon after meeting; in 2020, Felix posted a photo booth picture of the pair from 2004.

After graduating from Detroit's Mumford High School in 2003, Ferguson began studying at the University of South Carolina and earned a bachelor's degree in computer science.

During his time at the university, he was a sprinter on the Gamecocks' track and field and cross country teams. He specialized in the 110- and 400-meter hurdles and the 400-meter dash.

He was a record-setting runner

Felix isn't the only decorated athlete in the house. In high school, Ferguson set a Michigan state record for the 400-meter hurdles at the World Junior Championships in Kingston, Jamaica — a feat that MLive called one of Michigan's greatest high school track records and, by 2020, had not yet been beaten.

Ferguson won his first-ever collegiate competition, the SEC Outdoor Championships in Knoxville, Tennessee, in 2003, per the USC Gamecocks. He later won the 400-meter hurdles at the Adidas Track Classic in May 2007, per the Oregonian.

Felix and Ferguson have also engaged in some amateur-level competitions. In 2009, World Athletics reported that the couple were part of a bowling team called "The Four By Four" — a play on the 4x400 track event — with fellow runner David Neville and his wife, Arial.

According to USATF, the couple wed in 2018 — the same year they welcomed their first baby together. The pair have not publicly shared any details or photos of their nuptials.

Despite their busy schedules, the couple have made it work through communication and planning. "I think it's just important to really try to schedule time for ourselves in," Felix explained to PEOPLE in 2020, as she was training for the Tokyo Olympics. "For me, it's been hard because a lot of that is asking for help sometimes but it's just — we have a great support system and it's amazing."

They have two children

The Olympic gold medalist gave birth to her first child, a daughter named Camryn "Cammy" Grace, on Nov. 28, 2018, via emergency cesarean section at 32 weeks pregnant.

Felix told PEOPLE that she and her husband had a "moment of prayer" before she was rushed into the operating room. Right after she gave birth, the nurses and doctor immediately had to take Camryn — who arrived eight weeks early and weighed only 3 lbs. — to the neonatal intensive care unit.

Camryn is now a healthy toddler. "It's changed every aspect of me but I felt like the biggest thing was it really helped me find my voice," the retired athlete told PEOPLE of becoming a mother. "It helped me to really see what was important and it's given me a different motivation."

In April 2024, the couple welcomed their second child into the world, a baby boy.

"We are overjoyed to welcome our son Kenneth Maurice Ferguson III, who we will lovingly call Trey," Felix told PEOPLE. "Born April 10th at 10:55 pm, weighing 7 lbs., 11 oz."

She went on to share that after experiencing a "traumatic life-threatening delivery" with Camryn, it was especially important to her to have a "joyful" birth this time around.

"I had a doula who supported, guided and believed in me. I was able to have the unmedicated VBAC I deeply desired," she said. "The entire experience was powerful, challenging, healing and so beautiful. My birth experience inspires me to continue to advocate for Black maternal health and the outcomes we can achieve when we listen [to] and support women."

In 2020, the New York Times reported that Ferguson had left his job in Michigan to move their family to Los Angeles so his wife could train with her coach, Bob Kersee, prior to the Tokyo Olympics.

After Felix returned from Tokyo in August 2021, her proud husband and daughter welcomed her home with a small Olympics-themed celebration — complete with a T-shirt emblazoned with Felix's photo. "So proud of her! To everyone else she's the 🐐," he wrote alongside a photo of the family and Felix's new gold medals. "But to us she's just Shug/ Mommy 🤗 welcome home baby. You are so loved!"

In May 2021, Ferguson attended one of Felix's meets wearing a T-shirt that said, "My wife is faster than your wife." Camryn wore a matching T-shirt that read, "My mom is faster than your mom."

Ferguson frequently shares photos of his daddy-daughter dates with Camryn. His mini-me takes after her parents with running and enjoys going to the park. Felix told Insider that the couple "might not be able to avoid Camryn pursuing running. "Because she's been coming out to the track and coming to my training sessions, she definitely is showing signs of loving running," she told the outlet. "Just running all over the place."

The daddy-daughter duo are also known for dressing up in costumes. With Felix, they've worn group costumes from hits including Grease, Guardians of the Galaxy and The Incredibles. The doting dad even wore a bright green bodysuit with Camryn to be a sunflower for Halloween — he posted a video of the pair singing and dancing to "You Are My Sunshine" together.

"This little girl has definitely stolen my heart," he wrote in 2021. "I love her so much and she loves to dance just like her old man."

The couple renewed their vows in 2021

In October 2021, the couple renewed their wedding vows at a gathering with all of their loved ones. Camryn served as their flower girl during the ceremony, wearing a gown and holding a sign that read, "Daddy, here comes Mommy!"

The evening was made complete with a dance from the groom and groomsmen and the bride and groom's choreographed dance to a medley of songs like "Go Crazy" by Chris Brown and "Apache" by The Sugarhill Gang.

"From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to our family and friends for going out of your way to be here to celebrate with us for our vow renewal," Ferguson wrote on Instagram alongside photos from the event. "It meant so much to look out and see all you guys laughing and enjoying yourselves. We hope you had fun and we want you to know how grateful we are that you were a part of this day that was so important to us."
