I Am: Celine Dion lands 100% Rotten Tomatoes rating

Celine Dion's documentary chronicling her life-changing diagnosis has landed a high score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Titled I Am: Celine Dion, the documentary from Oscar nominee Irene Taylor follows the singer's journey since she was diagnosed with a rare neurological disorder known as stiff-person syndrome (SPS) in December 2022.

The symptoms of Dion's illness led her to cancel several live shows, as she was experiencing "severe and persistent muscle spasms" affecting her ability to perform.

Earning a critic score of 100%, the documentary has captivated viewers following a challenging period in Dion's life when she received the diagnosis and learnt she couldn't tour.

In her own words, the film explores "the journey from discovering my condition to learning how to live with and manage it, but not to let it define me".

Ahead of the film coming to Amazon's streaming service Prime Video tomorrow (June 25), let's take a look at what critics made of I Am: Celine Dion.

London Evening Standard

"A raw, heartbreaking and deeply moving window into the reclusive life of a once-in-a-generation talent cut down in its prime."

The Daily Beast

"Documentaries about musicians are a dime a dozen, and typically pointless – verging on reliably terrible... I Am: Celine Dion is in an entirely different category from those wastes of time."

The Daily Telegraph

"What was meant to be a flattering narrative based around her long running Las Vegas residency turned into something far more raw and emotional than anyone might have expected, including the participants."

The Guardian

"Like her music, which has cut through the emotional defenses of millions across languages, I Am: Céline Dion is unabashedly sentimental, deeply earnest and, for a true pop diva, mostly devoid of ego, with a few exceptions."

"Dion's life story unfolds here like an inverted fairytale, where a singing-obsessed child from small-town Canada reaches global heights only to be struck down by a curse from within."

The Hollywood Reporter

"This palpable and visceral glimpse into her pain is a jolting reminder of the toll this condition has taken on Dion not just as a star but as a person."

Variety

"Like all things Celine Dion, I Am feels intensely personal and sincere, but also managed to within an inch of its life."
