Amanda Kloots Describes Financial Toll of Nick Cordero's 95-Day Hospitalization: 'The Ventilator Alone Was $3,000 a Day'
“I immediately was like, ‘What am I going to do?’” the TV personality said of learning how much she owed for her late husband's medical care
Amanda Kloots is sharing how expensive the hospital bills were for her late husband Nick Cordero, who died in July 2020 due to COVID-19 complications.
During an appearance on the June 11 episode of SoFi’s Richer Lives podcast, The Talk co-host, 42 opened up about the financial toll of Cordero’s hospitalization before his death.
“Nick was in the hospital for 95 days,” she said. “His whole body was being run by machines. The ventilator alone was $3,000 a day… on top of the 20 other machines that were running his body.”
“When I heard that, I immediately was like, ‘What am I going to do?’ So you can imagine what the total bill was,” she added.
Kloots said once she realized how much she would need to pay, she immediately found a financial advisor to help her figure out how she could save while still caring for her and Codero’s son Elvis, 5.

“I never thought I was going to lose my husband. Up until the day he passed away, I really thought we were going to make it,” she explained. “So I don’t think the financial magnitude really really hit me until he passed away and calls were coming in…Unfortunately death is a business.”
“My medical bill for Nick came almost a year and a half later. I got a huge medical bill,” Kloots said. “Surprise!”
The Tell Me Your Dreams author admitted that before he died, she and her husband had never discussed what they would do if something were to happen to either of them.
“Because you think you’re invincible,” the television personality said. “You’re in your 40s. You’re like, ‘Nothing’s gonna happen to us. We’re fine. We’ve got time.’ We were just starting our lives.”
Cordero died in July 2020 from COVID-19 complications, having his leg amputated before succumbing to the virus. In March, Kloots marked the four-year anniversary of the day she brought Cordero to the hospital in Los Angeles with a photo of the couple with their son.
In her heartbreaking Instagram post, she wrote, “It’s extremely hard for me this time of year to not think back to 2020. This pic was exactly four years ago, right before our lives began to change forever. I guess I’m just reminding everyone to love the ones you’re with. Really love them.”
“Appreciate every second you have with them,” Kloots continued. “Remember how quickly something can change. You think you have a lifetime… don’t take it for granted. Don’t be a fool. I was and learned the hardest lesson of all. Love love love to the fullest. Every single day. ❤️”
