Amanda Kloots Shares Heartbreaking Question Son, 3, Asked When Celebrating Late Husband Nick Cordero’s Birthday

Kloots' husband and Elvis' father Nick Cordero died in July 2020 due to COVID complications

Amanda Kloots is opening up about how her 4-year-old son Elvis is processing his dad Nick Cordero’s death.

"It has come up a couple of times. And, of course, it's always at random, weird times,” the television personality, 42, explained in TheRetaility.com's "In Conversation" series. Cordero died from Covid-19 complications in 2020.

The Tell Me Your Dreams author added that watching him process the situation and ask his mom tough questions as he grows older is a “battle of emotions. It's hard.”

Kloots recalled a specific example from Cordero’s birthday celebration this year, saying, “This is the best way to sum up how he is understanding things right now.”

“On Nick's birthday,” she shared, “I like to plan a celebration on that day. So, we get a cake and we sing Happy Birthday to Dada. This year, we went to Del Frisco's [Steakhouse] because that was Nick and [my favorite].” She added that the steakhouse was “iconic” for the couple. “It became our spot.”

Kloots continued, “So, I took Elvis there for Nick's birthday this year [with] my girlfriend and her fiancé. And I'm getting Elvis all dressed up in a little, cute suit and talking about how it's Dada's birthday. And he goes, 'Will he be there?' So that's where we're at.”

She explained that Elvis is "very frank" about his dad not being alive because Kloots prioritized making that clear. “He knows he has a dad. He knows that his dad isn't alive. And he's very frank about 'my Dada is dead.' He will say [that]. Because I've been very clear about that. I didn't want to be — 'He's in the clouds.'"

While Kloots’ belief in her husband’s spirit watching over his family has “gone so much deeper than I ever thought it would be,” she said she thinks that explaining the death of Elvis’ dad in this manner wouldn’t be helpful cognitively.

“ I believe that Nick watches over us every single day and is with Elvis at school and with us now… But cognitively, I don't think he's fully aware of it right now,” she said, adding “It's coming, though."

Elsewhere in the interview, the mom of one shared that she prefers to watch her child herself, as opposed to daycare or babysitters.

"As a parent, I'm adding at least $100 onto my bill because of babysitting," said Kloots as she discussed her dating life.

And when she does hire a sitter, Kloots shared, "I treat my babysitters well because it's my child, and when I think about a dollar amount to keep my child safe, healthy, and happy — there is no dollar amount."
