'Amazing Race Canada' Season 10: Eliminated Trystenne Burey and Eva Amo-Mensah on 'scary' Roadblock, challenge switch

"This was the perfect opportunity to come out there and show Black Girl Magic," Amo-Mensah said

The Amazing Race Canada Season 10 is off to a tough start in Niagara Falls, Ont., with racers having to rappel down the side of the Horseshoe Falls, and then put their memory to the test. For Trystenne Burey and Eva Amo-Mensah, both personal trainers from Toronto, they couldn't beat the other 10 teams in the first leg of the race, being the first eliminated racers, but they're still "on cloud nine" after sharing their experience with their friends, families and the rest of Canada.

"We haven't really seen Black women like us on TV before," Amo-Mensah told Yahoo Canada. "So this was the perfect opportunity to come out there and show Black Girl Magic, and show that we can do this too."

"We really wanted to do something that was going to inspire generations to come," Burey added. "We don't get to see two Black women supporting each other, ... motivating each other, often."

"After the episode aired, so many people have reached out and said, 'My daughters, they love seeing you on TV.' ... And I think that's really what our entire journey was all about."

As we see in the episode, Burey, who is afraid of heights, was the team member who repelled down the cliff, but her teammate supported her all the way through.

"It was definitely scary," Burey said. "I think too, leading up to it, we ran from the initial starting point to the rock wall, so that in itself was exhausting."

"Your heart is racing, you get there and you're like, 'Oh no, this is what's happening right now.' So I feel like it was definitely a whirlwind of emotions, but to have completed it, I'm so proud of myself. I wish they showed more as I was lowering down and trying to just motivate myself, I could hear Eva clearer and clearer the lower I got, and it was ... calming to know that she's there, she's rooting for me."

In an interesting move in the episode, when the teams had to pick between "Game Time," where they had to play midway games, or "Show Time," tasked with memorizing and performing a script, Burey and Amo-Mensah actually switched their choice during the race.

"After we finished that first challenge, we kind of saw what was next and we just picked the first thing," Amo-Mensah explained. "The Show Time, we didn't think it would be that much memorization."

"People are staring at you, it's just very hard to focus and concentrate, so that's why we decided to switch to the arcade games, and honestly that worked out better for us anyways, because we're very physical people."

"Our thought process was, we can perform. And I feel like we always forget the real-time adrenaline rush that's happening while you finish the challenge and you see people running, and people are looking at you, and you just want to keep going," Burey added. "So I feel like we didn't get the time to digest what was really on it."

While Burey and Amo-Mensah identified that the cast this season is competitive, with strong physical backgrounds, they're particularly supportive of former pro baseball players, Michael Crouse and Tyson Gillies, succeeding in the rest of the race.

"They actually helped us in that episode and they didn't air that part," Burey revealed. "On our way to the haunted house, we were getting a little bit lost and they were coming from the opposite direction."

"They were like, 'Keep going. It's like up the street.' ... We were very grateful."

But Burey and Amo-Mensah aren't closing the door to reality TV in the future.

"We loved being on TV, we just didn't have enough time," Burey said.

"I just wish you got to see more of our personalities," Amo-Mensah added.

While they both would do Amazing Race Canada again, or the now cancelled Big Brother Canada, if it was to come back, there's also another series they have their eyes on.

"If they come out with a Love Island Canada, something for the girlies, ... beach, hot weather, no rain," Burey said. "We would definitely do another show."
