Amy Robach was taken aback by how well T.J. Holmes and her parents got along.

During the June 13 episode of their podcast, Amy & T.J., the former GMA3 co-hosts chatted about an earlier podcast episode they recorded with Robach’s parents, Joan and Mike — which was Holmes’ original idea.

Robach, 51, revealed how well Holmes, 46, and her parents get along, so much so that she got emotional watching them interact. “I was so blown away at [Holmes’] reaction to them and what they had to say. So it was really great,” she recalled.

She explained that one recent interaction brought tears to her eyes, revealing that Holmes spoke “really enthusiastically” about Robach’s mother’s “honesty and her feistiness and her humor” and her father’s “quiet wisdom.”

“Honestly, like, I got tears in my eyes seeing how much my man, my guy, not only loves my parents but respects them and maybe even more importantly likes them. And that has been huge,” Robach continued. “But you know, that is a big deal. With potential in-laws or just family members of the people you love, it doesn't always go that way.”

Holmes quickly added that he’s known her parents for years and hung out with them previously, and jokes that he “almost prefers to hang out with [her] parents when [Robach’s] not around.”

“You've taken it a step too far,” she quipped back. “It's like when someone tells you they love your child when you'd say that, you know what I mean, like it's like an extension of you and that you have no control over to a large degree."

She continued: "And when you came over and just were genuine because, let's just say this about you — I think you can be honest here — you don't necessarily like a lot of people.” She quickly clarified that Holmes is “discerning” and “very honest,” noting that “it takes a lot for people to impress him.”

Holmes added that he doesn’t “waste time trying to fool somebody into thinking that I like them or I want to spend time with them,” adding, “But I've never been one to go kiss the ring or try to make good with the boss just because. So yeah, and to that way, discerning, I just if I like you know it. If I don't like you... you might not know it.”

“I don't want that to be a negative because one of the things I love about you is that you are who you are,” added Robach. She explained how Holmes doesn’t “put on airs” and is “as real as they come,” noting how she always felt “extra special” when they were friends because she knew he “liked” her.
