Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes are looking back at the intense attention on them at the beginning of their relationship.

The Amy & T.J. hosts shared an unsettling memory on the June 12 episode of their podcast. During their February 2023 vacation to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico — which came just weeks after ABC announced their exit from GMA3 — they spotted a drone peering through their bedroom window.

The pair say they were relegated to their apartments in New York City because photographers followed them everywhere in public, so they decided to jet off to Mexico for what they thought would be a private getaway.

"When we were in Mexico, we thought we were in the clear and we had drones following us the entire time," Robach, 51, says.

"We had a nice place we were staying looking out to the ocean and one morning she said, 'Is that a drone?'" Holmes, 46, recalls.

"Looking into our bedroom" window, Robach adds.

The flying cameras also followed them to the beach.

"We were sitting on the beach having lunch and picked up our food and ran inside because of a drone overhead taking pictures of us," says Holmes.

Robach says they eventually gave up on the trip: "Four days into the vacation [they were] everywhere. Remember we shut the curtains and pretty much cried and said we can’t go anywhere in the world. We have to go back into hiding."

"This was February of 2023, so now we’re a couple months into it," Holmes says. "I can’t remember how far into it to where we got comfortable enough. I do not know."

Holmes and Robach parted ways with ABC in January 2023 after it was revealed that they were secretly dating. ABC said at the time that their relationship posed an “internal and external disruption.”

News of the off-camera relationship surfaced as Holmes and Robach were privately separated from their spouses.

Elsewhere on the latest episode of their podcast, filmed live in New York City, the pair revealed that their colleagues at the time made them feel like they "were surrounded with support," with Holmes noting that "some of it was BS."

“But once it was clear that we weren't coming back, I never heard from most people again," Robach said.

Holmes added: "And we get that to a certain degree, right? Everybody's trying to hold on to their job. They don't want to be seen as being an ally of the two people that ABC News doesn't like."

Robach also shared that the backlash felt like she “murdered someone," noting that she did see "a lot of people yelling support" whenever she and Holmes were recognized walking down the street.

“No one came up and said anything horrible to our faces, but it was just all the comments and all the commentary and all the headlines, it just, it weighs you down to the point where you think ‘I'm the worst person in the world,’" she said. "And you do feel like you've committed a crime.”

"It's bizarre… It was strange to me to suddenly, you know, to be this, this just hated horrible person for loving someone. It was frustrating, too, because the narrative was not true," she added.
