Angel Chiang happy to be nominated

10 Apr – Similar to most of the nominees, Shenzhen-born actress Angel Chiang is just happy to be nominated for the Best New Performer at the upcoming 33rd Hong Kong Film Awards.

As reported on Oriental Daily, the actress, whose first lead role in the movie "A Secret between Us", earned her a nomination alongside stars such as Babyjohn Choi, Lin Gengxin and Du Juan. She believed that there is a room for improvement for her, and that being nominated feels like a dream.

"The competition is very strong," said the actress. "When I was first cast in the role, nobody thought I would be able to do it. I am thankful to the director [Patrick Kong] for giving me the opportunity."

Having worked with TVB for seven years including the "When Heaven Burns" and "Come Home Love" series, Angel stated that she wasn't paid much being a newcomer, and was sad that she could not be the daughter that her parents could be proud of.

"But this nomination makes me feel like I have given them a gift. I hope that one day I can make money to give them a better life and make my family proud of me," she enthused.

Dropping her girl-next-door image to perform some sexy and intimate scenes, the 24 year-old actress said that it was the most extreme she could go, saying, "Sexy is not my thing. I want to play various characters and hope that there would be more to come in the future!"

In "A Secret between Us", Angel plays a girl who sold herself as an "escort" to save her mother, losing her first boyfriend in the process.
