Angler fishes World War Two shell from river

An angler netted an unexpected catch when he spotted a suspected World War Two artillery shell while fishing in a river.

Police said the explosive discovery was made in the River Don, close to Ball Street in Sheffield, shortly before 16:00 BST on Sunday.

Bomb disposal experts were called to the scene and carried out a controlled explosion of the device.

South Yorkshire Police said no injuries were reported, while a cordon put in place "for public safety" has since been lifted.
