The second season of Channel 4 drama Suspect now has a release date.

Starring Anne-Marie Duff and James Nesbitt, the first season followed Nesbitt's character Danny as he tried to find out what had happened to his estranged daughter who was thought to have died by suicide.

A second series was confirmed soon after, with the first two episodes airing back-to-back on Wednesday, July 17 at 9pm. Radio Times confirms episodes 3 and 4 will then air at the same time the following day.

While Nesbitt is not thought to be reprising his role, Duff will return as Susannah in the latest season, which will follow her character as the lead.

A synopsis confirms the show "picks up where the first left off, with Anne-Marie Duff returning as Dr Susannah Newman, now on a desperate quest to track down a self-confessed serial killer before he kills again that night".

It continues: "When a mysterious new client Jon admits under hypnosis that he is a murderer and intends on killing another young female that evening, Susannah knows he must be stopped at all costs.

When he escapes before the police arrive and as her former lover Detective Superintendent Richard Grove is refusing to take action, Susannah is forced to embark on her own deadly mission to save Sapphire’s life, the way she couldn’t do with her own daughter."

Ben Miller will return as Richard in the show, with a host of new faces joining the cast including Preacher's Dominic Cooper, Friday Night Dinner star Tamsin Greig, and Sherlock's Vinette Robinson.

They are joined by Back to Black's Eddie Marsan, The Castaways star Celine Buckens, Nicholas Pinnock, and The End We Start From actor Gina McKee.

Suspect season two begins on Channel 4 at 9pm on Wednesday, July 17.
