Anya Taylor-Joy Wraps Into Bondage Inspiration With Strappy Ludovic de Saint Sernin Minidress for ‘Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga’ at CinemaCon 2024

Anya Taylor-Joy made one of her first promotional appearances on Tuesday in Las Vegas for her forthcoming film “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.” The actress attended Warner Bros. Pictures’ presentation during CinemaCon, held at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace.

For the occasion, Taylor-Joy channeled S&M edginess. The Emmy-nominated actress wore a leather minidress with metallic detailing from Ludovic de Saint Sernin’s fall 2024 ready-to-wear collection. The dress featured a criss-crossed halter strap and a link of fabric detached from the hem of the dress. Taylor-Joy opted for very minimal accessories, and completed the look with a pair of pointed-toe stilettos.

Ludovic de Saint Sernin’s fall 2024 ready-to-wear collection featured a first-of-its-kind collaboration with New York-based Robert Mapplethorpe Foundation when it debuted during New York Fashion Week in February. Mapplethorpe was known widely for his photography, in particular his documentation of the New York S&M scene. “Through his work, I found myself as a queer kid discovering my sexuality,” de Saint Sernin said.

Among the pieces in the collection, de Saint Sernin highlighted leather coats, boleros, bra tops and ankle-slit pants — all of which featured a “sultry sophistication,” as noted in WWD’s review. “It’s a dream of mine to do this. [At the foundation] they could feel the love and see that I’ve been referencing him for a while. They liked the approach that I had, which was rather than print his pictures on garments, to bring his pictures to life by having the characters come out of the frame and onto the runway,” de Saint Sernin said of the collection and collaboration.

“I wanted to remind people that [Mapplethorpe] could photograph incredible body parts that were shocking, and like something you’ve never seen, but then equally beautiful was a photograph of a tulip,” he said.

“Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” is the prequel to director George Miller’s Oscar-winning 2015 film “Mad Max.” The film stars Taylor-Joy as the titular character, and costars Chris Hemsworth. “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” releases in theaters on May 24.
