Apparently, we'll never know if Drew Barrymore accepted Pauly Shore's marriage proposal

After asking Barrymore to marry him on Friday's episode of her daytime talk show, the "Encino Man" star jokes to EW that the pair is "figuring out where we want to go for our honeymoon and where we want to plan the wedding."

Audiences were left holding their breath at the end of Friday's episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, in which Pauly Shore asked the host to marry him. Now, it seems that fans will never learn her answer.

EW has learned that The Drew Barrymore Show won't air any resolution to the dangling thread of Shore and Drew Barrymore potentially tying the knot, despite the host's declaration that audiences would "find out my answer" in the next episode. It seems that the entire segment was nothing more than a gag, shattering the hearts of hopeful romantics everywhere.

However, Shore jokingly maintains that he and Barrymore are still plotting their future together. "We're in the middle of spending private time together, figuring out where we want to go for our honeymoon and where we want to plan the wedding — either New York or LA," Shore tells EW through a representative. "But we might just compromise, meet in the middle and do Texas — cause that's what marriage [is] about, compromise."

The comedic nature of the segment probably shouldn't come as a surprise, as Shore couldn't even get the words out of his mouth without stifling laughter. After explaining that his late mother, influential Comedy Store owner Mitzi Shore, disapproved of Barrymore's short-lived marriage to Tom Green, the comedian said, "And she said to me, she goes, 'Pauly, Drew should marry you.'" Barrymore responded, "That's how Mitzi felt?" to which Shore replied, "No, that's how I feel too," while snickering before whipping out a massive engagement ring.

Barrymore noted on the episode that the offering was "an amazing engagement ring, by the way," and exclaimed in the show's conclusion, "This has been a wild ride. Pauly Shore, I love you so much!"

Alas, it seems that her affections for the comedian, who once babysat her as a child, are nothing but platonic.
