Appreciate cultural, religious diversity, says Sabah CM – Bernama
Cultural and religious diversity should not lead to differences among the people but should be embraced as an important face that had made what Malaysia is today, said Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman.
"Unity and harmony are traits that are part of what being Malaysian is about, and I am proud to note that we have a high level of acceptance for one another, especially in Sabah," he said when opening the Dragon, Unicorn and Lion Dance Festival 2015 in Kota Kinabalu today.
Musa expressed the hope that unity, harmony and friendship that had been fostered would remain solid in maintaining political stability, economic growth of the nation.
Musa also stressed that the state government would not allow any party or individual undermine religious harmony and unity and would ensure that both these two elements continue to sustain for generations to come.
A total of 100 dragon, lion and unicorn dance troupes, from across the state participated in the event organised in conjunction with Chinese New Year and Cultural Village Exhibition 2015.
The event organised by the United Sabah Communities Association of Kota Kinabalu aimed to develop cultural heritage and enhance knowledge on dancing skills to raise funds for the association's activities.
Musa said through these festival events, the Tiong Hua community's cultural heritage could be promoted thus attracting more visitors to Sabah.
According to him, the participation of young people from various ethnic groups in this festival could help develop self-discipline and foster teamwork.
"This is an important platform for youths from various communities in the state to learn to work together, develop attitude of tolerance and mutual respect for each other's culture," he said. – Bernama, February 7, 2015.
