Ariana Grande once told a young fan that Jeffrey Dahmer is her dream dinner date: 'I have questions'

“I was infatuated with serial killers when I was younger,” the Grammy-winner admitted.

Ariana Grande had a true crime obsession just like everyone else — but she once made the mistake of letting that slip to her young fanbase.

"I was infatuated with serial killers when I was younger,” the Grammy-winner revealed during an appearance on the Podcrushed podcast. Co-hosts Penn Badgley, Nava Kavelin, and Sophie Ansari were quick to zero in on this, prompting Grande to recall a meet-and-greet experience that nearly got her in trouble with a fan's parents.

“It was in a Q&A with fans, with young fans,” she explained. “It was in between me being Cat [in Nickelodeon’s Sam & Cat] and pop stuff, so it was like a younger group, and they were with parents, and someone said. ‘If you could have dinner with anyone living or or dead, who would it be?’”

She continued, “I was like, ‘Oh, you're so cute. Mom and dad, is it okay if I give the real answer?’ And they were like ‘Sure, what’s the answer?’ and I was like, ‘I mean, Jeffrey Dahmer is pretty fascinating. I think I would have loved to have met him. Y’know, maybe with a third party or someone involved. But I have questions.’”

While this answer earned Grande a laugh from the Podcrushed hosts, she hints that the adults in the room were far from thrilled. "The parents were like, 'We’ll explain it later, sweetie.’ And I was like, ‘I’ll just sing ‘Problem’ and go home.’

Although Grande won’t get the chance to break bread with Dahmer, she’s already achieved the next best thing — starring in a music video with Evan Peters, who earned an Emmy-nomination and Golden Globe win for his performance as the serial killer in Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.

The American Horror Story alum may have shed his frightening persona for Grande’s “We Can’t Be Friends (wait for your love)” video, but the impact of her serial killer fascination on her music video casting process wasn’t lost on Badgley. The actor, who recently starred in Grande's "The Boy is Mine” video, joked that between him and Peters, her Eternal Sunshine album is basically a “serial killer tour.”

Grande laughed. “I knew someone was gonna say this. Like, 'Why the f---? What is this pattern? Do we need to talk about this pattern here?’ Maybe there's something to look at,” she joked, adding, “No, I’m kidding.”

While Peters has earned acclaim for his portrayal of a real-life killer, Badgley is known for playing Joe Goldberg, a hopeless romantic who doubles as a murderer in the Netflix series You.

At least in Peters’ case, the serial killer connection was unintentional, but Grande did admit that You was certainly part of her motivation for reaching out to Badgley. In fact, the idea came straight from the video’s director, Christian Breslauer.

“I sent him all the voice notes and as soon as he heard 'The Boy Is Mine' he was like, ‘This reminds me of the show You. Whatever we do with this video, let's ask him to do it.’ He had that idea before anything else.”
