Arjan Bhullar Shares His Vision For 2020
Arjan “Singh” Bhullar is grateful to have found a home with ONE Championship, and he has now set big goals for himself in the coming new year.
The Indian heavyweight inked a deal with The Home Of Martial Arts in July and made his debut at ONE: CENTURY PART II in Tokyo, Japan this past October.
In that bout, the 33-year-old out-struck former ONE Heavyweight World Title challenger Mauro “The Hammer” Cerilli to score the unanimous decision victory.
Bhullar, who comes from a decorated wrestling background, was glad he could showcase his boxing skills in his promotional debut.
“I don’t want to be a one-dimensional athlete just relying on one skill. It was about getting an opportunity to apply all my new skills,” he said.
“He was expecting the wrestling and I went with the striking, so you take that and you win.”
Since his victory, “Singh” has expressed interest in challenging ONE Heavyweight World Champion Brandon “The Truth” Vera.
“I have a lot of respect for Brandon Vera as a fighter and as the champion,” Bhullar said.
“He’s been the champion over at ONE in the heavyweight division forever, and he’s done a great job for himself, for his family, for the fans, for the Philippines, and for the Filipino people. That’s everything I want to do in my career.”
Capturing the gold is part of Bhullar’s 2020 masterplan.
He wants to become a World Champion to inspire fans and elevate the local mixed martial arts scene in his ancestral homeland of India.
“By the end of next year, I want to have that title around my waist, and I want to take it to India,” he said.
“That is the goal for 2020. That is what’s going to blow up the sport in India, and it will help me accomplish so many things that I’ve wanted to do as an athlete and outside of the sport.”
Bhullar is also focused on becoming a positive role model and a martial arts hero for the Indian people.
“I have to represent my family, myself, and our community with pride wherever I go,” he said.
“That is what made me come under the ONE banner and made it so natural for me because that’s what I’m about. That’s what I do and that’s how I live.”
In the meantime, The Home Of Martial Arts returns to action on 10 January for ONE: A NEW TOMORROW at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand.
