Arsenal vs Tottenham - LIVE!

Arsenal and Tottenham maintained their unbeaten starts to the Premier League season with a thrilling 2-2 draw in the north London derby. Heung-min Son cancelled out Cristian Romero’s own goal before half-time, and the Spurs captain was on target after the break too as he scored within two minutes of the restart following Bukayo Saka’s penalty.

In a fixture that so often delivers drama and entertainment, it was the Gunners who took the lead, Saka causing Spurs plenty of problems in the early stages and involved in the opening goal as his curling strike was turned into his own net by Romero. Gabriel Jesus wasted a huge chance to double the lead and it proved costly, as Arsenal saw their advantage wiped out before the break. James Maddison skipped away from Saka and his low ball into the middle was divered into the far corner by Son.

Romero was again involved in a way he would rather not be as Arsenal edged back in front within ten minutes of the second-half. He handled Ben White’s shot and, after a VAR review, the penalty was given. Saka held his nerve to lift his spot-kick down the middle, as Guglielmo Vicario’s dive took him out of the way. That lead did not last two minutes. Almost straight from the kick-off, Jorginho was robbed as he took an age on the ball, Maddison driving into the space. He slid the pass through to Son, who cushioned a cool finish past David Raya to leave the Emirates stunned.

Ange Postecoglou had predicted there would be two possible storylines from his first north London derby, writes Dan Kilpatrick.

If his Tottenham side won, they would be declared emphatically on the right track; but if they were beaten by a more experienced Arsenal, it would show how far they still have to go.

In the end, it was a little of column A and little from column B, as Spurs earned an exhilarating 2-2 draw, demonstrating their remarkable progress under the Australian but confirming there remains work to do.

Arteta provides Rice update

17:28 , Matt Verri

Mikel Arteta hopes the back injury that forced Declan Rice off during Sunday’s north London derby is not serious.

The midfielder will now be assessed by Arsenal ahead of Wednesday’s Carabao Cup game at Brentford.

And asked if there is any danger that Rice could be out for a while, Arteta said: “Hopefully not.

“We have to assess him. It’s strange that a player like him asked to come off because he was uncomfortable. Hopefully not, but let’s see.

“He had some discomfort in his back. He was telling us during the first-half that he was uncomfortable.”

Gunners toil without Rice

16:50 , Matt Verri

The north London derby felt like a game where Declan Rice would underline his importance to Arsenal - and so it proved, writes Simon Collings.

Unfortunately for Mikel Arteta, it was not in the manner he would have wished. Rice was conspicuous by his absence in the second-half, with Arsenal’s midfield struggling without the England international - who went off with an injury.

His replacement, Jorginho, was sloppy dispossessed for Tottenham’s equaliser to make it 2-2 and it summed up the Gunners’ malaise.

Tottenham ratings

16:37 , Matt Verri

Dejan Kulusevski 8

Lively and gave Oleksandr Zinchenko plenty of problems down the right. Created a good chance for Son with an excellent through ball in the second half.

James Maddison 9

Decisive in the final third again, setting up both Son’s goals. Lucky to get away with a loose moment in possession on the edge of his box when Jesus fired over in a big moment.

Post-match reaction from Heung-min Son

16:25 , Matt Verri

It’s a derby, it’s always a tough game. But the performance was fantastic from the lads until the last whistle.

“I think we gave everything so I think the fans can be proud of the game. Obviously we wanted to win, but I think the performance was perfect.”

Arsenal ratings

Bukayo Saka 8

Arsenal’s best player as he terrorised Destiny Udogie. Got them ahead when his shot hit Romero to find the net. Slotted a penalty in the second-half.

Eddie Nketiah 5

Trusted with leading the line in a huge game as Jesus was pushed out left. Blew a good opportunity when Udogie’s back-pass put him through - should have cut the ball back.

Horror show from Jorginho

Simon Collings at the Emirates

16:07 , Matt Verri

In typical north London derby fashion, a bonkers game.

Felt like Arsenal lost their way in the second-half, no doubt in part to the absence of Declan Rice. Manner of Spurs’ second goal also knocked stuffing out of them.

Frustrating result for Arteta in the end.

FT: Arsenal 2-2 Tottenham

And breathe!

The north London derby finishes level, both sides remain unbeaten in the Premier League.

As thrilling, dramatic and entertaining as ever.

16:01 , Matt Verri

90+9 mins: Zinchenko with a hopeful ball into the box, Udogie flicks the header away.

Not great options for Arsenal in the air when the ball is flung in. Spurs have a brief chance to counter, pass from Sarr is a poor one though.

15:58 , Matt Verri

90+7 mins: One final Arsenal change - Smith Rowe on for Saka.

Looks like Nelson has shifted over to the right, Smith Rowe going to play wide on the left.

15:56 , Matt Verri

90+5 mins: Spurs gradually taking back a bit of control, happy to just keep the ball.

Richarlison tries to make something happen, spinning in the box, but Saliba blocks his effort.

15:54 , Matt Verri

90+2 mins: It’s ALL Arsenal now. Saka’s shot from the edge of the box is turned behind by Vicario. Corner to the back post, Saliba challenging and the Gunners will have another corner.

Odegaard swings it in, Vicario knocks it up and then claims at the second time of asking.

Dan Kilpatrick at the Emirates

15:52 , Matt Verri

Ten minutes of added time should lift Arsenal, who are finishing this game the stronger.

Spurs look jaded and have lost their talismen in Maddison and Son.

15:51 , Matt Verri

90 mins: He’s back up - fear not, Arsenal fans.

Here we go... ten minutes added on! A long, long time still to go in the north London derby.

15:51 , Matt Verri

89 mins: Saka down and he looks in a lot of pain.

Udogie it was challenging him, the pair both fell to the ground and the Arsenal man might have jarred something.

15:49 , Matt Verri

87 mins: The stage was set for Havertz... couldn’t take his chance.

Ball sat up for him, edge of the box and on his left foot. It’s a wild finish, high into the North Bank.

15:47 , Matt Verri

86 mins: Almost!

Corner is flicked on, all the way across the face of goal and nobody is there in a red shirt to turn it in. Nketiah didn’t react at the back post.

15:46 , Matt Verri

84 mins: Spurs having all of the ball, Arsenal fans desperately trying to encourage the home side to push up the pitch.

The Gunners have had plenty of late winners at the Emirates over the past 12 months - this is going to have to come a bit out of nowhere.

Nelson, the man for the occasion, cuts inside and his shot is deflected over for a corner.

15:43 , Matt Verri

82 mins: Richarlison playing through the middle for Spurs, Kulusevski and Solomon either side of him.

Bit less creativity for the visitors now though, with Maddison off. Hojbjerg not exactly like for like...

15:41 , Matt Verri

80 mins: Arsenal just do not look confident on the ball. Well off their usual standards, Odegaard has barely had a kick.

Home fans trying to rally them, but it’s Spurs who look the more likely to find a late winner as it stands.

15:39 , Matt Verri

77 mins: Jorginho clips a ball over the top, finds Nketiah but he’s offside.

Arsenal change coming up, Jesus off and Nelson on in his place. He’s made a habit of making an impresson off the bench...

Two Spurs subs too. Son handing the armband over to Romero. He’s off, as is Maddison. Hojbjerg and Richarlison on.

15:35 , Matt Verri

74 mins: Better from the Gunners, Jesus slides a pass in down the side of the Spurs defence and Havertz wins a corner.

Odegaard swings it in, flicked on to the back post and Vicario can claim under pressure from Nketiah.

And here come Spurs on the counter, playing so confidently. Porro looks to cross it for Son, cut out. Had to be too, Son was free.

15:33 , Matt Verri

72 mins: Maddison back on, he’s going to give it a go. Looks to be moving ok.

Arsenal have lost their way as an attacking force since that second Son goal. They’ve offered nothing at all.

Simon Collings at the Emirates

15:31 , Matt Verri

This game feels like it could descend into chaos in the final 20 minutes.

Emotions running high - in the stands and on the pitch.

15:31 , Matt Verri

69 mins: Side-netting!

Arsenal are struggling. Jorginho in particular, who has been really poor since coming on. He’s robbed yet again by Maddison and Spurs are away. Kulusevski with a great ball in behind, Son can’t quite get it on target from a tight angle.

Maddison has stayed down, he looks in a fair bit of pain. His knee jolted awkwardly.

15:29 , Matt Verri

67 mins: Nketiah absolutely flies in on Vicario, that was late.

Ball had already gone, came in with so much force. Just a yellow card for Nketiah - wasn’t far away from being more than that.

15:28 , Matt Verri

66 mins: Gabriel clatters into Kulusevski, free-kick Spurs. Great position for Maddison to whip something into the middle.

Havertz is there to head clear, but Solomon can keep it alive. Back into the box, easily claimed by Raya.

15:25 , Matt Verri

64 mins: Spurs are carrying a real threat on the counter.

Maddison down the left, plays a nice one-two with Son and the ball sits up for him. First-time strike, 25 yards out... miles over the bar. Visitors fancying this now.

15:22 , Matt Verri

61 mins: Saka with another chance to run at Udogie, this time he slides White in on the overlap. That was the plan anyway, but too much on the pass and it’s out of play.

Johnson has pulled up for Spurs, looks like a hamstring injury and his afternoon is over. Solomon coming on for the visitors.

15:20 , Matt Verri

59 mins: Havertz into the book for a trip, it’s all gone quiet at the Emirates. Home fans stunned after that couple of minutes.

Still half an hour to go in north London - best of luck predicting what we get next!

Simon Collings at the Emirates

15:18 , Matt Verri

What a crazy few minutes that was. Arsenal get in front and then shoot themselves in the foot.

Arteta will be fuming.

GOAL! Arsenal 2-2 Tottenham | Heung-min Son 55'

15:17 , Matt Verri

SPURS RESPOND IMMEDIATELY!

Extraordinary! Shambles from the Gunners and they have gifted Spurs an equaliser.

Jorginho robbed by Maddison, he had all the time in the world. Maddison strolling through, slides the pass through to Son and he finishes!

GOAL! Arsenal 2-1 Tottenham | Bukayo Saka 54'

15:14 , Matt Verri

ARSENAL BACK IN FRONT!

Odegaard initially has the ball, he passes it to Saka though. The Englishman steps up and makes no mistake, lifting it down the middle!

PENALTY ARSENAL!

15:13 , Matt Verri

Given!

Referee told to have a look at the monitor, it’s a long check and he returns to point to the spot!

15:11 , Matt Verri

50 mins: HUGE appeals for an Arsenal penalty!

White with the shot on the swivel as the ball bobbled around in the box, bounced up and hit Romero’s arm.

VAR taking a look...

15:10 , Matt Verri

49 mins: Awful pass from Saliba and Spurs are away on the counter, played straight to Johnson.

He’s charging into the space, before Saliba gets across to make up for his error. Maddison is then almost in on goal, lovely ball over the top that he can’t bring down.

Sounds like Rice has his left calf bandaged up on the bench.

15:08 , Matt Verri

47 mins: So Arsenal having to quickly adapt to almost a completely new midfield.

They’re still going for the same thing down, out to Saka to run at Udogie. This time they can’t quite pick him out though.

Back underway!

15:06 , Matt Verri

Up and running for the second-half!

Two Arsenal changes at the break. Rice and Vieira off, Jorginho and Havertz on. We were not expecting that.

Strong acting...

15:02 , Matt Verri

First-half stats

14:58 , Matt Verri

Arsenal are used to seeing plenty of the ball, not so this afternoon.

Spurs had 61% possession in that first-half, they’ve held their nerve when playing out from the back under pressure.

Seven shots each, three shots on target, one goal each. Right in the balance!

Big response from Tottenham!

14:55 , Matt Verri

Dan Kilpatrick at the Emirates

14:54 , Matt Verri

To give you an idea of Ange Postecoglou’s impact on Spurs, in last season’s defeat here they completed 307 passes in total.

By half-time, they’re already on 253 -- 90 more than Arsenal.

HT: Arsenal 1-1 Tottenham

14:51 , Matt Verri

And that’s half-time.

Arsenal took the lead, and a deserved one, when Romero turned Saka’s strike into his own net.

Jesus had a massive chance to double the advantage, missed that and it’s proved costly. Spurs gradually took control and are level at the break thanks to Son’s finish.

Game on.

Dan Kilpatrick at the Emirates

14:49 , Matt Verri

Saka has been decisive for Arsenal in the final third but was turned too easily by Maddison for the equaliser. An element of revenge for borrowing his England team-mate’s celebration...

Spurs now have Udogie, Sarr & Bissouma on bookings, which may make for a tricky second half.

14:47 , Matt Verri

45+1 mins: Four minutes added on.

Arsenal breaking through Jesus, Sarr drags him back and that’s a yellow card. Can’t have any complaints about that.

Bissouma earns a yellow too, seemingly for his complaints.

14:45 , Matt Verri

44 mins: It was brilliant work from Maddison to set up that goal, rolled Saka and then picked out Son.

Well then. The Emirates is stunned and Spurs are looking full of confidence again ahead of half-time.

GOAL! Arsenal 1-1 Tottenham | Heung-min Son 42'

14:43 , Matt Verri

SPURS ARE LEVEL!

It’s a mess at the back from Arsenal and they’re punished. Raya flicks a cross straight to Johnson, saves that effort.

But Arsenal can’t clear their lines. Maddison gets to the byline, ball into the middle and Son turns it into the far corner!

Simon Collings at the Emirates

14:41 , Matt Verri

Important five minutes coming up for Arsenal here. Spurs getting some joy and they need to ride the storm.

The last thing they want is to let the visitors back into it before the break.

14:39 , Matt Verri

38 mins: MASSIVE SAVE!

Wow. Raya keeps Arsenal in front, brilliant from the Spaniard. The Gunners are opened up down the Spurs right, Son with the cut back and Johnson seemingly has an open goal to aim at.

Doesn’t catch the shot perfectly, gives Raya time to scramble across and somehow claw the ball away on the line.

14:38 , Matt Verri

37 mins: Raya takes a fair old time on the ball, he’s closed down and lumps the ball straight out of play. Very relieved to hear the whistle has gone, free-kick. Bit soft.

Arsenal swiftly up the other end, Saka causing Spurs all sorts of problems. Space is inside, comes to Odegaard and he curls an effort at goal. Easy enough save for Vicario.

14:36 , Matt Verri

35 mins: Jesus drifting in off the left wing, looks to ping a ball through to Nketiah but instead it’s straight to Vicario.

Arsenal well on top right now, they’re pushing for a second goal. Spurs struggling to cope with the pace of the match.

14:33 , Matt Verri

32 mins: HUGE CHANCE!

Spurs playing out from the back, Maddison robbed in his own box by Jesus. The Brazilian has to score, but he blazes the finish high over the bar.

Big moment.

14:32 , Matt Verri

31 mins: Viera on the left wing, a rare Arsenal attack down that side. Stands up a lovely cross to the back post, Van de Ven does superbly to turn it behind for a corner with Jesus lurking.

Saka’s corner to the back post, headed clear to Vieira who nods it back into the middle, all the way through to Vicario.

Dan Kilpatrick at the Emirates Stadium

14:31 , Matt Verri

No surprise Arsenal’s goal came down the right where Johnson has not offered Udogie much protection so far.

It was slick counter-attack, starting with Zinchenko’s fine pass.

14:30 , Matt Verri

29 mins: Saka did a ‘throwing darts’ celebration after that goal - sure Maddison, who normally does that, appreciated it.

Arsenal on top, Spurs need to be careful here. Danger that the Gunners really take control.

Simon Collings at the Emirates Stadium

14:28 , Matt Verri

That is the danger if you leave Saka one on one.

Ruthless counter from Arsenal, with Zinchenko starting it off excellently.

GOAL! Arsenal 1-0 Tottenham | Bukayo Saka 26'

14:27 , Matt Verri

ARSENAL TAKE THE LEAD!

And it had to be him! Odegaard wide to Saka, and he’s allowed to cut inside into the box on that left foot. Curling effort at goal, huge deflection off Romero and it flies beyond Vicario.

14:25 , Matt Verri

24 mins: Maddison caught by Vieira, Spurs have a free-kick in a decent position.

It’s Maddison to swing it into the box, drops for Sarr at the back post and his wild effort ends up on the other side of the pitch behind him. Not his best.

14:22 , Matt Verri

21 mins: Arsenal not using their left wing at all, it’s all going through Saka. They want him running at Udogie at every possible opportunity.

Odegaard as ever drifting out to that flank, combining with Saka. It’s the key to this match right now.

Simon Collings at the Emirates

14:20 , Matt Verri

In typical fashion Arsenal are looking to get Saka in every time. Udogie doing okay so far, but he really needs some help from Johnson.

Teams stop Saka when they double-up on him.

14:20 , Matt Verri

19 mins: Porro fires a great low ball into the box, Raya can’t come for it and it flashes across the face of goal.

White hooks it away, with Johnson waiting behind him for a tap-in. Sarr then has a wild effort at goal, before Kulusevski’s cross finds Raya. Better spell for Spurs.

Dan Kilpatrick at the Emirates

14:18 , Matt Verri

There’s a couple of great individual duels in this game already, notably Saka vs Udogie. The Spurs left back has just been booked for a late tackle on the winger before a really sloppy back pass.

He’s in for a tough afternoon, you imagine.

14:17 , Matt Verri

17 mins: Udogie is rattled. Awful back pass, sets Nketiah clean through on goal. Tight angle and Vicario turns the shot behind for a corner.

Saka swings it in, Rice lurking but he can’t win the header. Zinchenko lifts it back in, Sarr does well to win the ball from Jesus.

14:16 , Matt Verri

15 mins: Well that’s been coming.

Udogie late on Saka, again the Arsenal man is brought down. This time the Spurs full-back is shown a yellow card, long 75 minutes ahead for him now.

Odegaard also booked for demanding that yellow card, needless from the Arsenal captain. All gets very heated as Maddison then tries to lift Saka to his feet.

14:14 , Matt Verri

13 mins: Maddison furious, he thinks he’s been fouled in the middle of the pitch. Referee does not.

Gunners then win it back again, Bissouma caught this time. Saka runs at Udogie, clips the ball to the back post and Jesus’ volley is really well saved by Vicario!

14:12 , Matt Verri

11 mins: Postecoglou will like what he’s seen from his side so far. Playing out from the back and brave on the ball, even if they have come very close to getting caught out on a couple of occasions.

Arsenal pressing high without the ball, Spurs a bit happier to sit off and let the Gunners’ defenders have it.

14:09 , Matt Verri

8 mins: Van de Ven dragged out wide as Nketiah makes the run in behind, slides in well though to halt the Arsenal man.

Saka then held back on the opposite flank, Arsenal free-kick and up come the centre-backs. Frantic start as expected.

14:07 , Matt Verri

6 mins: Chance for Johnson to break and he is flying down the left wing - that is until Rice comes across and closes the door.

Warning sign for the Gunners though, White and Saka could not catch up with the Spurs winger.

Simon Collings at the Emirates Stadium

14:05 , Matt Verri

Arsenal fans: “Harry Kane, he left ‘cause you’re s***”.

GOOO.... OFFSIDE!

14:04 , Matt Verri

3 mins: First attack of the match and it’s a good from Spurs.

Maddison in space in the middle, he plays it out wide to Johnson. He’s allowed to cut in off the left, gets the shot away and it’s deflected away for a corner.

Comes to Bissouma, his scuffed effort falls for Son and he turns it in from close range.... offside. Comfortably so too. Brief scare though for Arsenal!

14:02 , Matt Verri

1 mins: Vieira clattered in the opening seconds. And we’re off!

Arsenal unsurprisingly look for Saka down the right straight away, Udogie does his first job well though and comfortably sees the ball out.

KICK-OFF!

Arsenal are doing some shape-work as they warm up and Jesus is playing left wing, with Nketiah as the No9.

Arteta: No better feeling than beating Tottenham

13:48 , Matt Verri

Mikel Arteta says beating Tottenham can give Arsenal’s season lift-off.

Asked if there is a better feeling than beating Spurs, he said: “No. Because you know what it means to people to have that possibility in your job, to make someone happy. That’s a huge sense of fulfilment and responsibility that we feel.

“It’s special. It’s a rivalry in the city but I really like the rivalry. I have lived many other derbies when I played in France, when I played in Spain, when I played in Glasgow, when I played Everton v Liverpool.

“It’s a special thing here. It’s special in the city, it’s special between communities as well and I really like it. It’s intense.”

Spurs need new derby hero

13:43 , Matt Verri

One of the most encouraging aspects of Tottenham‘s fast start under Ange Postecoglou has been the absence of longing for Harry Kane, writes Dan Kilpatrick.

That might just change today when Spurs compete in a first north London derby without the England captain in nearly a decade.

Since his first-team breakthrough, Kane did not miss a single League meeting with Arsenal and came to dominate the fixture, tormenting the Gunners on the way to becoming the top scorer in derby history.

His absence this weekend further changes the dynamic in a contest that already promises to be dramatically different to last season’s one-sided affairs.

Ange Postecoglou has prioritised speed by handing a first start to Brennan Johnson this afternoon.

The Australian told broadcasters that Dejan Kulusevski will start on the right as usual, which makes sense given Spurs lack a target man up top, but the Swede and Johnson could swap sides at some point.

The absence of Leandro Trossard is a plus for Spurs, easing the pressure on right-back Pedro Porro.

Postecologu’s pre-match thoughts

13:35 , Matt Verri

“A good performance is the key. You want to know how you are going to go against one of the best teams in the league. It is about our performance.

“I am looking forward to it. I have had a lot of firsts this season and this is another one. It’s why we do what we do.”

Simon Collings at the Emirates Stadium

13:33 , Matt Verri

It’s a huge blow for Arsenal having no Leandro Trossard, who has been excellent in the last two games.

But with plenty of games to come, you can see why Arteta isn’t taking any risks. Big chance for Nketiah to take his chance, although I suspect Nelson or Smith Rowe will get minutes late on too.

Crucial battle out wide?

13:31 , Matt Verri

If there is one weakness in Arsenal’s defence, it can be argued that it is Oleksandr Zinchenko. The Ukrainian is excellent on the ball, however at times he can be vulnerable defensively.

Tottenham will look to exploit that, with Dejan Kulusevski very good at working space. The Swede is able to move his opposite number inside or out, and Zinchenko will need to be wary about tucking into midfield.

Postecoglou wants to see positive display

13:20 , Matt Verri

Tottenham head coach Ange Postecoglou has insisted his side’s performance is more important than the result this afternoon, as he vowed not to abandon his ultra-attacking approach against Arsenal.

“We’re five games in, I understand that for many people, they will see this as our first real test and I get that,” Postecoglou said. “It is pretty easy, you could almost write two stories now: if we are successful, great we’re on the right track. If we’re not, we’ve still got a long way to go.

“For me what is going to be more important is how much of our football I see in a big game like this. How much of us can I see against a top opponent?

“That will give me the biggest indicator of where we’re at but ultimately we’ll still be six games into a new cycle, a new group of players, a very young group of players.”

Arteta discusses team selection

13:17 , Matt Verri

“Gabby [Jesus] has played in all positions up front. He feels comfortably, he’s very adaptable, he gives us different things. Let’s see how it goes today.

“A lot of headaches to make the lineup, that’s a good thing. That means there is quality in the squad. Always difficult decisions to make.”

Trossard absence explained...

13:10 , Matt Verri

Big calls from both managers!

13:09 , Matt Verri

Arsenal are indeed without Martinelli and Trossard this afternoon, real blow for them on that left wing. Jesus more than capable of filling in out wide though, with Nketiah coming in through the middle.

It’s otherwise pretty much as expected from the Gunners, though Arteta did have a big decision to make in midfield. He’s gone for Vieira over Havertz.

For Spurs, a first start for Johnson as he comes into the front-line. Will be interesting to see how that trio of Son, Johnson and Kulusevski line up.

Porro and Udogie the two full-backs once more - Postecoglou not backing down, as he promised!

Key midfield battle!

12:47 , Matt Verri

Yves Bissouma has been one of Tottenham’s brightest sparks under Ange Postecoglou, rediscovering the form he showed during his time at Brighton.

The 27-year-old will look to break up play and stifle Arsenal’s midfield, but he will have to find a way of thwarting Declan Rice, who has added the power Arsenal’s midfield was craving and will look to dictate the tempo of this afternoon’s match.

Odegaard signs new Arsenal deal

12:41 , Matt Verri

Martin Odegaard says it was an “easy decision” to agree a new contract with Arsenal and believes the club can win major trophies after tying down the core of its squad.

Arsenal captain Odegaard signed a five-year deal this week until 2028, giving the Gunners a major boost ahead of the north London derby. The midfielder is the latest key player to commit his future to Arsenal, following Aaron Ramsdale, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Magalhaes, Gabriel Martinelli and William Saliba.

“It was an easy decision for me,” said the Norwegian. “This feels like home and what we are doing is something I really want to be a part of and to improve even more and take new steps to achieve some great things together.

“That is the big dream, the big goal, to win things with the club. That’s why I have signed here as well, because we can achieve some great things.

“What we’re doing is really special and the players see what the manager wants to do and how the club is progressing, the connection we now have with the fans. It’s a no-brainer for the players to be part of that.

Arteta sends Arsenal warning over Spurs threat

12:36 , Matt Verri

Mikel Arteta has warned his Arsenal side about underestimating Tottenham now they are without Harry Kane.

The England captain, who joined Bayern Munich in the summer, is the record goalscorer in north London derbies with 14 goals in 19 appearances.

“He was obviously a special player and everything went through him,” said Arteta. “He was the one that glided everything together.

“(Tottenham) did it in many different ways from many different areas of the pitch. Now it’s a bit different. They have a different style from the last two coaches as well.

“They, for sure, have some specificity in certain moments that they make with certain players so I think it’s a very different team. They have many other qualities and many other players who can create and make a difference in the game. Probably it’s a big change for them but they’ve adapted really well.”

Postecoglou dismisses Arteta comparisons

12:31 , Matt Verri

Ange Postecoglou has played down comparisons with Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta and says trying to replicate another manager’s style would be as futile as copying a Picasso.

Postecoglou first encountered Arteta, 17 years his junior, when he was in charge of Japanese side Yokohama F. Marinos and the Spaniard was assisting Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

“I spent a week at City when I first got the Yokohama job because they were part of the [City Football] Group and were generous enough to invite me in,” Postecoglou said. “I didn’t speak to anyone but I observed training and you could see then how passionate Mikel was about the game and that he was itching to become a manager himself.

“In terms of similarities… I’m 58, he’s whatever. I’ve had 26 years, he’s five years into it. He’s managed in one country, I’ve managed in a few. I’m not sure how he’s got a great head of hair… He’s a lot fitter than I am. I don’t know mate, there’s not a lot of threads I can sort of join between us.

“Even in the way his team plays. Yes, he does have a very attacking philosophy but it’s different from mine and that’s the beauty of the game. That’s what you love about it. It’s why you can’t copy.

“If you’re an artist and you see a Picasso, yeah you can copy it, but it’s not going to be a Picasso is it?”

Levy: Spurs have Kane buy-back clause

12:22 , Matt Verri

Daniel Levy has reiterated that Tottenham would be able to re-sign Harry Kane if the England captain targeted a return to the Premier League.

The 30-year-old - also England’s record scorer - has enjoyed a blistering start to life at Bayern Munich, netting his first hat-trick yesterday to continue a superb run of goalscoring form.

But talk over a potential future return to Tottenham has already been circulating this week after chairman Levy revealed during a rare appearance at a fans’ forum on Tuesday that Spurs had inserted a buy-back clause into the deal with Bayern.

Levy was quizzed about that clause again during a subsequent interview with Bloomberg, remaining tight-lipped on the specific details of the agreement but reiterating that Tottenham would have the capacity to re-sign Kane if the player one day desired a return to N17.

“The actual precise detail of the contract with Bayern Munich should remain confidential,” Levy said. “All I would say is if that one day Harry wanted to come back to the Premier League, and he wanted to come to Tottenham, we would have the ability to purchase him.”

Arteta: Dropping Ramsdale has been tough

12:14 , Matt Verri

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta says it has been uncomfortable dropping Aaron Ramsdale, with summer signing David Raya starting the last two games and keeping cleaning sheets in both.

“Maybe I look [comfortable] but in your tummy when you have players sitting and you have to announce the line-up, it is one of the hardest things,” said Arteta.

“Players feel valued and happy when they play. And when they don’t it is very difficult. You want them to feel loved and trusted and the way to do it is to play them.

“It is hard, but with other players it is the same. Aaron is an exceptional character, he has got this charisma and this aura around him, and we all know that and I fully understand that.

“I understand that and it is very difficult with every player. And I suffer and I care about every player who is not playing but this is the competition and this is my job to make decisions in the best possible way for the team.

“He (Ramsdale) has been very supportive and really good around the place and that is what I expect from every single player as when you are on the field, there is someone else who is not. So it goes both ways. So far he has been really, really good.”
