League of Legends (LoL) developer Riot Games unveiled the Season 2024 cinematic, titled 'Still Here', on Wednesday evening (10 Jan) and it seems to have blown away the game's players and community.

Following the disappointment and frustration caused by last year's "The Brink of Infinity," it’s definitely safe to say that this year's cinematic has redeemed the letdown last year. Still Here features seven different champions and introduces numerous intriguing lore elements, excellent and almost realistic animation, as well as a song that matches the mood and stories in the entire video.

Although it did not do enough to surpass "The Call" in 2022, there were a ton of stunning frames and lore pieces players could pick up on in this year's cinematic. From the plethora of great scenes in that short video, we've selected five standout champion moments in the 2024 Cinematic.

Kindred actually hunting like a predator

Kindred is one unique champion because they're mostly referenced in lore -- but to have an entire cinematic themed after them and seeing them in action is quite the treat.
Kindred is one unique champion because they're mostly referenced in lore -- but to have an entire cinematic themed after them and seeing them in action is quite the treat.

One of the biggest wins in the 2024 LoL cinematic was the appearance of Kindred. This champion has a unique design; a duo consisting of Lamb, the gentle and guiding spirit of death, and Wolf, the savage and relentless hunter. In the game's lore, Kindred appears in moments when death is imminent.

Since they’re twin essences of death, they haven’t really appeared in any cinematic. We only get hints of them everywhere — like the silhouette of Lamb when Tryndamere opens his eyes during the first few seconds of the cinematic or the voice line of Kindred (Lamb) at the beginning: “Tomorrow is a hope… never a promise.”

However, we actually see multiple frames of Lamb circling around an embattled Tryndamere, and Wolf attempting to take him down was such a treat. I was literally clapping my hands as I saw them on my screen— it was so beautiful.

It showed us the gentler, more calculating side of death in Lamb — patiently circling Tryndamere.

Then, there was the ravenous, predatorial Wolf aggressively attacking The Barbarian King at every moment it could, showing us the savage side of death.

Kindred’s appearance in Still Here not only clearly depicts how they are described in the lore, but it also shows us the potential interactions Kindred has with any dying character in Runeterra.

Ashe saving Tryndamere

Another champion who rarely made an appearance in any LoL cinematic was Tryndamere. At the beginning of the clip, we saw him battle-worn and lying flat on the ground, surrounded by his enemies.

As the cinematic progressed, the Barbarian King fought for dear life against Kindred; we even had a glimpse of Tryndamere’s eyes glowing red to show his ultimate Undying Rage and spinning to fend off Kindred (Wolf) attacks.

But as frost arrows pass through Kindred (Lamb) and Tryndamere to hit the latter's enemies, the mist clears and reveals the wielder of the bow, none other than Ashe, his wife. And the way his eyes change from rage to relief — followed by Ashe using her E (Hawkshot) to scout ahead, was just *chef’s kiss*.

Grandpa Yasuo picking up a sword to fight

It took a while for me to recognise him during the first few frames of his reveal. The guy was, after all, holding a staff: I thought it could be Jax without the purple clothing. As he picked up his sword, I changed my mind: maybe it could be Master Yi without his usual skin.

Then, he finally used the Wind Wall, and my jaw dropped—is that Yasuo? This was followed by his Q and finally his ult, that annoying move that seemed to be always accompanied by “Sorye ge ton!”

It couldn’t be, right? The last we heard from him was he was headed to Noxus after the events following the Ruination. Maybe it was his master, Elder Souma?

But when I reviewed the video, the scar on his nose gave it away—it is a glimpse of Yasuo in the far future. Wow — for a LoL fan, that’s a lot to take in!

Morgana and Kayle Fighting Together against Aatrox

There’s a lot of material and champion interaction between Kayle and Morgana, but we were given a glimpse of the past — in old Demacia, back when both Kayle and Morgana were still fighting side by side.

Normally, we’ve seen LoL cinematics tackle new lore (sometimes conflicting with existing lore), so it’s such a breath of fresh air to see the canon past, but with a new piece of information — the champion they were fighting with at the time was Aatrox.

On top of this, the quick fight sequence of the sisters against Aatrox was superb, with Aatrox overpowering them and throwing them against the walls that protected Demacia.

I added a separate point for the moment where Morgana and Kayle used their ultimates against Aatrox because both are perfect references to the moments in the game — but also because these moments were pretty stunning.

As Morgana stood up, her eyes glowed a bright purple, and she expended all her energy to use her Soul Shackles to root Aatrox into place.

The way she seemed to struggle, with veins forming out of her eyes as they glowed, made it even more believable.

This was followed by Kayle standing up and spreading her wings — and glowing golden before she seemingly explodes, signifying the use of her Divine Judgement.

Which among these champion moments were your favourite?
