AXN Asia highlights Asian influencers who are making real change for women

As part of their International Women’s Day celebration, cable channel AXN is honouring various Asian influencers who have been making changes for women through their social media platforms.

Here are some of the influencers we’re highlighting.

From Taiwan:

Lin Ching Lan

Lin is a dancer from Taiwan who was born with severe hearing impairment. Despite this, Lin’s been able to channel her passion for dance by feeling the rhythm of the music from the sound waves transmitted through the floor. To help other deaf individuals, Lin has opened a dance school to share her passion for dance.

From Malaysia:

Nandini Balakrishnan

Balakrishnan has tackled difficult topics such as discrimination and social issues with her followers using her social media platforms. As an awardee of the Women of the Future Awards, Balakrishnan has taken content to new heights with her quick wit and humour.

Leona Chin

Chin is one of the few female motorsport drivers in the world. Chin started her career at the age of 19 and broke gender stereotypes to become a top athlete. She also uses social media to engage with her fans and shed light on the motorsport world.

The Philippines:

Mona Magno-Veluz

As the National President of Autism Society Philippines, Magno-Veluz has championed the rights of the disabled and spoken publicly on topics such as leadership, culture, and genealogy. Despite her busy schedule, Magno-Veluz has been active on social media and uses platforms like TikTok to engage with her followers.

Alex Madrigal Eduque

Eduque has been a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity since she was 15. Then, at 22, the young philanthropist started her own foundation, MovEd, to provide basic early education to children in need.

Singapore:

Gemma Rose Foo

As a paralympic equestrian, Foo is an absolute inspiration. So far, Foo has represented Singapore three times in the Paralympic Games. Unfortunately, while training for the Rio 2016 Olympics, Foo ruptured her spleen after falling off her horse. Despite being advised not to continue with the sport, Foo persisted and is still competing professionally to this date. Foo’s last participation at the Olympics happened during the 2020 Tokyo Games.

Leona Hui

As one of the few females in the boxing space, Hui has done a lot for representation in the sport. Hui’s competitive boxing experience spans the 2015 to 2019 SEA Games. As an athlete, Hui hopes to inspire more females to take up the sport.
