The Great British Bake Off: An Extra Slice guest star Stephen Mangan has revealed his connection to eliminated baker Amos.

The spin-off returned to Channel 4 tonight (September 28), with Jo Brand and Tom Allen taking a behind-the-scenes look at the week’s events, with Stephen joining Michelle Visage and new Bake Off host Alison Hammond on the panel.

As the group remarked on the first week’s events, which saw Amos eliminated from the show, Stephen revealed to the panel and audience that he had a personal connection to the series 14 star.

“I know one of the bakers – I had no idea they were in it when they came on. Amos worked at a deli for years on my street,” revealed Mangan.

“I’d see him all the time, so as soon as he came up I was like ‘Amos! I am going to enjoy watching you over the next few weeks’. And it wasn’t to be – it’s an outrage.”

Amos subsequently joined the panel to discuss his time on the show, and spoke of his shared history with Mangan.

“He was one of my favourite customers – he was so smiley all the time. Double macchiato,” said Amos, alluding to Stephen’s regular order, with the comedian referencing the baker’s Showstopper challenge in response: “And you kept saying, ‘do you want Orca with that?’”

Amos’ exit came during Cake Week despite placing second in the Technical Challenge, but the star revealed that he “loved” his experience on the Channel 4 show despite his early exit.

“Nothing but pure love! What an amazing experience I've had,” he wrote. “I can't believe how much fun I've had and what a joy to meet all the wonderful bakers I can now call my close friends. Feeling the LOVE and will always remember my Bake Off journey as the fondest of memories. Love Amos.”

The Great British Bake Off airs on Channel 4 in the UK. In the US, it's known as The Great British Baking Show, and streams on Netflix.
