Former Bake Off: The Professionals presenter Tom Allen has landed his next role in television.

To mark the 10th anniversary of same-sex marriages being legalised in England and Wales, Allen has been chosen to present a TV special titled My Big Gay Wedding.

Ahead of the series, he spoke of his delight in hosting it, saying: "The fact that same-sex couples couldn't get married here just ten years ago means we should never be complacent about the progress we've made, and so it's only right to celebrate it thoroughly.

"I'm looking forward to making this joyous celebration of love and gay marriage, or garriage as I like to call it."

A spokesperson from the broadcaster added: "To commemorate this momentous occasion, comedian, presenter and writer, Tom Allen is pulling out all the stops to arrange the wedding of their dreams for one gay couple.

"As he helps the lucky couple arrange the wedding of the year, Tom will reveal the extraordinary story of the fight for equal marriage, meeting the inspiring LGBTQ+ trailblazers who helped make this day possible."

My Big Gay Wedding will feature the wedding of a happy couple "in a joyous celebration of love, community and hard-won equality".

Allen and a number of other celebrities will be involved in helping with the ceremony, as they plan to make the wedding one to remember.

The presenter will also discuss his own experiences growing up gay during the special, which is set for BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

Elsewhere, Allen is preparing to embark on a 2023 tour, which kicks off in September.

My Big Gay Wedding is expected to air later this year on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
