The Great British Bake Off spoilers follow.

After becoming the first baker to leave the Bake Off tent this year, contestant Amos has broken his silence on social media.

In an emotional goodbye letter published via the Channel 4 show's X account, the North London deli and grocery manager wrote: "Nothing but pure love! What an amazing experience I've had. I can't believe how much fun I've had and what a joy to meet all the wonderful bakers I can now call my close friends.

"Feeling the LOVE and will always remember my Bake Off journey as the fondest of memories. Love Amos."

Many fans of the stomach-rumbling series were sad to see him depart, with one user commenting: "He seemed really sweet, I was looking forward to seeing more of him".

"Awwww I think no one should go on the first week!! We're just getting to know and love you all!! Would have loved to have seen more of Amos!" and "Very bad luck, Amos. If anyone had to go, shouldn't have been you," read two more reactions.

Returning to our screens yesterday (September 26), the opening episode of Bake Off was Cake Week, with judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith challenging the 12 new hopefuls to construct a vertical layer cake; the missing raspberry cake from the title sequence, and for the Showstopper, an animal-shaped cake.

Despite pouring his efforts into an edible killer whale, Amos' final creation collapsed.

"It was obviously the Showstopper that stopped my show," a tearful Amos said after his elimination.

The Great British Bake Off airs on Channel 4 in the UK. In the US, it's known as The Great British Baking Show, and streams on Netflix.
