SINGAPORE — Bakery Gin Thye was fined S$4,000 on Wednesday (13 March) for operating an unlicensed cold store, the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) said.

According to the SFA's media release, officers discovered on 6 September 2023 that the bakery, known for providing confectioneries for occasions like weddings and Chinese New Year, had stored over 1,500kg of meat products in a refrigerated container.

Seizure of meat products

The agency said the container, situated at the Northlink building at 10 Admiralty Street, did not have the necessary licence to function as a cold store. The SFA seized the meat products.

"Illegal storage of meat and seafood at unlicensed facilities pose a food safety risk," according to SFA, adding that cold stores for such products must operate with a valid licence.

Those found guilty of illegally storing such products could face imprisonment for up to 12 months and/or a fine of up to $10,000.
