‘Ballerina’ Pushed to 2025 as ‘The Crow’ Moves Into June 2024 Release Date
Lionsgate’s “John Wick” spinoff “Ballerina,” starring Ana de Armas, has been pushed to 2025. Rupert Sanders’ “The Crow” remake will take over its release date of June 7, 2024, while “Ballerina” will bow on June 6, 2025.
Studio insiders say Chad Stahelski, who oversees the “John Wick” franchise along with Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee at Thunder Road, is working closely with “Ballerina” director Len Wiseman on additional action sequences for the film. With “The Crow” ready to go, Lionsgate sees no reason to rush “Ballerina” into theaters just yet, especially with strong advance tracking numbers.

“Ballerina” follows a skilled assassin trained in the traditions of the Ruska Roma. Starring de Armas, Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, Lance Reddick, Catalina Sandino Moreno and Norman Reedus, with Ian McShane and Keanu Reeves, “Ballerina” is written by Shay Hatten, based on characters created by Derek Kolstad and produced by Iwanyk, Lee and Stahelski.
Meanwhile, modern reimagining of “The Crow” will star Bill Skarsgård in the story based on the original graphic novel from James O’Barr. In the film, soulmates Eric Draven (Skarsgård) and Shelly Webster (FKA twigs) are brutally murdered when the demons of her dark past catch up with them. Given the chance to save his true love by sacrificing himself, Eric sets out to seek merciless revenge on their killers, traversing the worlds of the living and the dead to put wrong things right.
“The Crow” also stars Danny Huston, Laura Birn, Sami Bouajila and Jordan Bolger. Directed by Sanders, the film is written by Zach Baylin and Will Schneider and produced by Victor Hadida, Molly Hassell, John Jencks, Samuel Hadida and Edward R. Pressman.
The studio has also added an untitled Guy Ritchie film to its release calendar, slated for Jan. 17, 2025. The project will reunite Ritchie with stars Henry Cavill and Eiza González following their other upcoming Lionsgate film “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare,” which is set to release on April 19, 2024.
In the upcoming film, two extraction specialists played by Cavill and Jake Gyllenhaal must designate a route of escape for a senior negotiator (González). The project is written and directed by Ritchie, who is producing with Ivan Atkinson and John Friedberg.
The release date changes were first reported by Deadline.
