BBC acquires suspense drama with Peaky Blinders star

The BBC has acquired new suspense drama Apples Never Fall, starring Peaky Blinders actor Sam Neill.

The limited series, which has already premiered in the US on Peacock, is based on the bestselling novel of the same name by author Liane Moriarty, whose novels Big Little Lies and Nine Perfect Strangers have also been adapted for television.

Jurassic Park legend Neill, also known for playing Inspector Campbell in Steven Knight's BBC series, is joined by Nyad's Annette Bening and The White Lotus' Jake Lacy in the series. Alison Brie of GLOW and Community fame also stars.

Apples Never Fall follows the story of the seemingly picture-perfect Delaney family, whose façade is threatened when a stranger enters their lives.

"Former tennis coaches Stan (Neill) and Joy (Bening) have sold their successful tennis academy and are ready to start what should be the golden years of their lives," teases the synopsis.

"While they look forward to spending time with their four adult children, everything changes when a wounded young woman knocks on Joy and Stan's door, bringing the excitement they've been missing.

"But when Joy suddenly disappears, her children are forced to re-examine their parents' so-called perfect marriage as their family’s darkest secrets begin to surface."

The mystery drama has been adapted for the screen by Melanie Marnich, whose previous credits include HBO's The Affair and The OA.
