BBC Radio 1 star Mollie King breaks down in tears live on-air over charity challenge

BBC Radio 1 star Mollie King has broken down in tears in the middle of her Comic Relief challenge.

The DJ and Saturdays member has been undertaking a huge Pedal Power challenge this week, cycling from London to Hull (which is 500km) in order to raise money.

In the middle of the undertaking, an emotional Mollie sat down with Radio 1 co-star Matt Edmondson, as he heaped praise on his friend.

"We all know that you are the nicest of people. The greatest of people," he began. "That you are enough already without having to do anything, and there's nobody that's ever met Mollie and not gone, 'She is the nicest person I've ever met'."

As a tearful Mollie sat there, Matt said that "the one person we're struggling to convince of that today is Mollie King", noting "the tiny, little, terrible person that lives in the back of her brain".

"If anyone out there has experienced that anxiety, you know that you can't wish it away," he noted. "There's nothing you can do. You kind of have to ride it out – literally in your case. You have to kind of ride it out.

"But you can do little things to help you. You can maybe put yourself somewhere quiet and calm. You can go and be with people that you love. And all of that has been stripped away from you.

"You've just got you and your brain out there today and it just sucks that your brain is a bad guy today. So I just want it known, Mollie, that the nation is completely behind you."

"Thank you, thank you so much," Mollie said as she hugged Matt.

"You are loved, you're adored. You've done enough, you always have been enough, and you don’t have to worry, OK?" he added. "And we're about to hit a really tough bit. So we need that terrible little person in your head to just take a break. We're gonna say a rude word to them and get them to leave, OK?"

Since then, Mollie has raised an incredible £1 million ahead of her scheduled finish today (March 15), the star saying of the feat: "This has been so crazy, a mad journey and I can’t believe the generosity of everybody. Thank you so much, oh my gosh."

Congrats Mollie!
