The BBC has dropped the first trailer for the upcoming crime thriller series Wolf, starring Game of Thrones' Iwan Rheon and Doctor Who star Sacha Dhawan.

Based on Mo Hayder's Jack Caffery series, Wolf follows the story of DI Jack Caffery (Ukweli Roach), a young detective who is haunted by the murder of his 10-year-old brother in the 90s.

Dhawan and Rheon star as mismatched professionals Honey and Molina who are forced together on a job. While Juliet Stevenson and Owen Teale play Matilda and Oliver Anchor-Ferrers, a wealthy Monmouthshire couple who have found themselves trapped in a psychopath's cruel games alongside their daughter Lucia (Annes Elwy).

The two narratives are soon on a collision course, leading to a thrilling, nail-biting and deeply disturbing race against time.

In the trailer, we see Dhawan and Rheon's characters terrorise the Anchor-Ferrers family inside their country home after initially posing as police officers.

"Why are you doing this?" Oliver asks while the family are tied up, to which Honey replies: "We want you to be scared, but when I say scared I mean really scared."

Meanwhile, DI Caffery finds himself entangled in the case after discovering a note pleading for help attached to Lucia's dog.

The trailer also teases plenty of secrets to be uncovered as the two storylines intertwine, with Teale's Oliver heard saying: "It's time to admit who we really are."

There's also plenty of strange behaviour from Honey and Molina as well as tension between Jack and fellow DI Maia Lincoln (played by Sian Reese-Williams).

Megan Gallagher (Borderliner, Suspicion) adapted the series for television, with Kristoffer Nyholm and Lee Haven Jones directing three episodes each.

Wolf will air on BBC One and iPlayer later this year.
