Beachgoer in Mexico Dies When Plane Carrying Skydivers Makes Emergency Landing: ‘Irreparable Loss'

The skydiving plane was carrying four Canadian passengers when it made the "forced landing," Mexican authorities said

A 62-year-old man died after a skydiving plane made an emergency landing on a popular beach in southern Mexico, authorities said.

The man — who was at Playa Bacocho in Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, with his wife on Sunday — died after the plane made a “forced landing,” Mexican officials said. They said that the man’s wife was unharmed in the accident.

The plane was carrying five people — including four Canadian skydivers, ages 60, 59, 41 and 35 — and a 40-year-old Mexican man, the Oaxaca state civil defense office said, according to USA Today and Reuters.

The Canadians were in “stable” condition after being examined by local medical authorities,  Mexican officials said, according to CBS News.

The identities of the victim and those on the plane have not been made public.

In footage of the scene posted on Facebook by local outlet Puerto Global, the plane looked largely intact.

The video shows that the Skydive Puerto Escondido plane came to a rest next to a wooden structure alongside the water’s edge. Police cordoned off the area to investigate the accident.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), State Governor Salomon Jara offered his condolences regarding the accident.

“To the family of the person who died, we will provide all the necessary support and accompany them in the face of their irreparable loss,” Jara posted.
