Indonesian beauty services marketplace Mecapan today announced that it has completed its equity crowdfunding campaign on Ata Plus with a MYR300,000 (US$75,000) funding secured from 20 investors.

The startup also secured two strategic investors partners –Hong Kong’s Midana Capital and Malaysia’s Ant Internet– who discovered the startup through the Malaysia-based equity crowdfunding platform.

The startup plans to use the new funding to support their regional expansion plan, particularly to Malaysia and Taiwan. It will also allocate the funding for product development.

Mecapan also officially launched its services in the Indonesian market on April 21.

The startup was founded in September 2017 by Naula Kamila, Syifa Alsakina, and Galih Taufiqurrahman.

Its platform enables customers to search, book, and share their experiences with a curated list of beauty providers. For business owners, the platform offers a platform to manage marketing, online booking, digital transactions, data analytics, and customer loyalty programmes.

Launching its crowdfunding campaign in January, Kamila explained in a press statement that the campaign was meant to help create awareness of the platform, in addition to raise funding.

“Upon the inception of Mecapan, we wanted to raise funds but we also hoped to create public awareness of who we are and what we are offering. We opted for equity crowdfunding because it helps us do both. We are also extremely glad that the campaign has opened up a path for us to meet the amazing people at Ant Internet and Midana Capital,” she said.

Equity crowdfunding is a relatively new concept in the Indonesian market, where crowdfunding campaign for social businesses or charity projects tend to be more popular.

The market saw the launch of its first known equity crowdfunding platform Akseleran in March 2017.
