Beef season 1 on Netflix spoilers follow.

Beef star Ali Wong has shed light one of the Netflix show's most surprising scenes.

The 10-part drama follows the aftermath of a road rage incident between two strangers, Danny Cho (The Walking Dead's Steven Yeun) and Amy Lau (Wong), that leads to both of their lives slowly unraveling.

Amy is trapped in a stale marriage that only becomes more fractured as she grows more obsessed with her grudge against Danny. As her life spins out of control, she has a sexual encounter with a much older man.

While both stars felt that the psychological reasons behind Amy's fling can only be explained by Beef creator Lee Sung Jin, Wong did speak to Digital Spy about her own justifications for the character.

"It’s just that Amy has a lot of shame about… When she says in the finale, 'I don’t want anybody to see me' – you know, so many people desperately want to be seen, and she’s like, 'Oh, no, I really don’t want people to see me'," the actress explained.

"That’s one of those things that she doesn’t want people to see, you know? She’s done something she wouldn’t even tell a best friend, and probably wouldn’t write even in a journal because she’d be too scared of someone reading it and finding out. That’s why she has the blanket over her head.

"She’s hiding. And even in her wardrobe – Amy would never wear something like this. Her wearing all of those creams and neutrals and whites, she’s hiding. That’s all part of it."

Viewers get an insight throughout series about the complex ways Amy thinks about sex, including a shocking scene where she masturbates with a gun.

"I wouldn’t even call it problematic," Wong argued. "I would just say it is what it is. But for her, she doesn’t feel comfortable with anybody seeing it, you know?"

Beef is now streaming worldwide on Netflix.
