Big Boys has announced its season 2 will release on Channel 4 in January next year.

The acclaimed teen drama stars Derry Girls' Dylan Llewellyn and Jon Pointing as Jack and Danny, two unlikely friends navigating sex, heartbreak and loss during their time at university in the 2010s.

Season 2 will pick up after their first year at Brent Uni, with the newly out Jack grappling with the death of his father, while Danny learns to deal better with his mental health issues.

The release window announcement came with a bunch of new pictures from the new instalment, seeing the best pals duo rocking cowboy hats at a themed party.

Meanwhile, Jack has a meet cute with newcomer Oscar as they both don the same shirt at what may be an LGBTQ+ mixer event.

Created by Jack Rooke, the series also stars Camille Coduri, Katy Wix, Izuka Hoyle, Olisa Odele, Harriet Webb and Annette Badland.

"We are finally returning, to take you all back to the pre-Brexit era of 2014/2015, where David Cameron wasn't our foreign secretary and everyone was happily doing the ice bucket challenge," Rooke said in a statement.

"Second year at Brent Uni is bigger and better than before, delving into even more of our uni gangs japes, scrapes and collective love of her royal highness, Alison Hammond."

The series is produced by Roughcut TV, also behind Stath Lets Flats and People Just Do Nothing.

"Big Boys is back for year 2 and time to get serious about studies," Roughcut TV managing director Ash Atalla joked. "No more drinking, partying or sex, this series is all set in the library where we follow our gang reading books. We hope you like our new direction."

Big Boys season 2 airs to Channel 4 in January 2024.
